Job Title: Staff Accountant
Reports to: Finance Director
Pay: $21.63 - $23 / hour

Position Type: Onsite / Full-Time / Hourly

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the organization. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring compliance with non-profit accounting standards, and supporting the financial needs of the organization’s programs.

The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Finance Director to prepare and assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and audits.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • - Maintain accurate financial records and assist with all aspects of the general ledger, including data entry, formatting and importing/exporting data for external reporting needs, journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly closings
  • Manage accounts payable, input invoices, process check runs, reconcile payments.
  • Monitor and reconcile all revenue accounts, cash receipts and receivables.
  • Responsible for data entry into accounting system, coding and reconciling financial transactions to ensure accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
  • Assist with liaising between CHGA and parent organization for reconciling intercompany accounts.
  • Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports for departmental leaders, executive level management and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Excel based reports, financial dashboards, and other tools to monitor the organization’s financial health.

Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • - Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts, and entry into the accounting system.
  • Assist with monitoring organizational and departmental budget performance and providing variance analysis to leadership.

Compliance and Audits:

  • - Work with Finance Director and external auditors for program audits, year-end financial audit and 990 preparations.
  • Compile documentation needed for audits and prepare workpapers for audit.

Grants and Fund Management:

  • - Compile and format data needed for grant-related donations and expense reporting.
  • Assist with the development, improvement and maintenance of reports and tools to analyze grant-related data.
  • Assist in monthly/quarterly/annual tracking, reporting and processing of grant expenditures.

Collaboration:

  • - Participate in departmental, organization and other staff meetings as directed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting clerk.
  • Liaise with various staff, managers and departments to gather and share relevant information.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to improve organizational processes and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
  • Experience with fund accounting, grant management, and financial reporting for non-profits.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products (especially Excel), and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to the mission of serving at risk youths.
