Our Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Senior Managing Engineer for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in Farmington Hills, MI. The successful candidate will leverage their excellent technical skills, hands-on skills, and communication skills, and ultimately develop their own consulting practice and grow professionally within Exponent.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion to include:
  • Communicating project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff
  • Ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product
  • Identifying business development opportunities
  • Developing and managing client relationships
  • Project and cost management on casework
  • Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations
  • Continuing to develop specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology
  • Managing, mentoring, and providing consulting work for junior consulting staff
  • Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice in Farmington Hills

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 8+ years of work experience in vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Ability to generate business and manage client relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands-on skills
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required
