Phlebotomist
Overview:
CVP is seeking skilled Phlebotomists to join our team in providing our nation's veterans with high-quality healthcare services at the VA Bedford Healthcare System located at 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
Responsibilities:
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of various ages and health conditions.
- Properly identify patients and ensure accurate labeling of all specimens.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Accurately enter patient information and test orders into the laboratory information system.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Assist with specimen processing and handling as needed.
- Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain required certifications.
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance. US citizenship required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program.
- Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NHA, or AMT).
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in phlebotomy, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform required duties.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
- Previous experience working in a VA healthcare setting.
- Additional certifications in healthcare or laboratory fields.
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- Lift up to 20 lbs.
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
