Legal Assistant - Estate Administration

The paralegal must be able to work independently, handling the administration of an estate from beginning to end, and collaborating with attorneys as needed. Qualified candidates should have at least 5 years of trusts and estate experience and must demonstrate excellent communication, writing and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare probate filings;
• Trust & Estate administration (i.e., prepare accountings, manage trust expenses and distributions, facilitate the filing of trust tax returns);
• Prepare various correspondence to clients, financial institutions, insurance companies, etc.
• Identifying, gathering, and valuing assets;
• Assisting attorneys with drafting, revisions, and finalizing trusts, wills, and other estate planning documents;
• Preparing accountings for both estates and trusts;
• Draft and organize estate tax returns, fiduciary tax returns, and other tax or IRS related forms;
• Managing a docket system and tracking deadlines.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as a trusts and estates paralegal, specifically in estate administration.
• Undergraduate degree or paralegal certification (or equivalent);
• Detailed, accurate, and an ability to handle confidential information
• Experience working with Microsoft Office resources (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with PDF software and related scanning and production utilities, and document management software;
• Experience working with tax preparation and accounting software (e.g., FastTax, ProSystems);
