Dental Hygienist - DH24-14224

Duration: 13 weeks

Position Summary:

• Responsible for providing preventive oral health education and dental hygiene services to patients. The role requires experience in full-cycle care delivery, from seating the patient to X-rays and cleaning. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are required for the Family Health Center.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with administrative/front desk staff to schedule hygiene patients efficiently.
• Accurately chart each patient's periodontal health.
• Counsel patients on oral health and the role of nutrition.
• Ensure patient comfort during treatment, easing any anxiety.
• Apply cavity-prevention agents like fluoride and sealants.
• Perform gentle and thorough prophylaxis.
• Take radiographs as prescribed by the dentist.
• Administer local anesthetics (if allowed by local dental practice regulations).
• Perform scaling, root planning, and selective polishing when appropriate.
• Review and update patient health and dental history forms.
• Maintain treatment room cleanliness according to sterilization standards.
• Counsel patients in tobacco cessation.

Safeguard and handle patient records in compliance with HIPAA and office policies.

Requirements:

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of current experience required.
• Experience with Cavitron and Dentrix EMR required.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Michigan Dental Hygiene license (required at upload).
• Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene required.
• BLS Certification.

Language Skills:

• Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
• Strong communication skills for effective rapport with patients and staff.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn electronic healthcare systems software.
• Previous travel experience highly preferred.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

• Clinical setting with exposure to medicinal preparations, communicable diseases, and toxic substances.
• Fast-paced environment requiring standing, walking, and occasional kneeling or stooping.
• Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
