Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologists and certified advanced practice providers deliver on-site care and treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, at affiliated infusion centers throughout our region.

Position Summary:

The Radiation Physicist Assistant performs tasks in support of a Medical Physicist in the professional practice of clinical medical physics. In all such circumstances, the Radiation Physicist Assistant must be appropriately supervised by a Medical Physicist.

Levels of supervision provided (personal, direct, or general) will vary depending on the specific task and experience of the Radiation Physicist Assistant and the professional judgment of the Medical Physicist supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the performance of patient-specific quality assurance, including but not limited to Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Electron Cut-Outs, and Pencil Beam Scanning (PBS) Proton Therapy.
  • Performs monthly mechanical testing, and assists the Medical Physicist in monthly quality assurance (e.g., TG51, TG 142, and TG 198) of linear accelerators and/or proton systems.
  • Assists the Medical Physicist in monthly quality assurance of CT simulators.
  • Assists the Medical Physicist in performing daily quality assurance tests for treatment delivery systems and/or high dose remote (HDR) afterloading units.
  • Assists the Medical Physicist in annual quality assurance and testing of radiation producing devices.
  • Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in activities related to certified registrations and radioactive materials licenses.
  • Participates in clinical activities related to physics and dosimetry as directed by a Medical Physicist.
  • Participates in research activities, programming, and scripting related to physics and dosimetry.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.

Preference may be given to individuals possessing an Associate’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

Must be able to work as part of a team and foster teamwork, be detail oriented and able to meet deadlines, and have excellent oral and organizational skills along with project management and project scheduling skills.
