Position: Police Officer (Entry Level)
The City of Sidney is hiring for the position of Police Officer. Candidates must submit a completed application and all required testing by the specified deadline.
Salary Information: Effective January 1, 2025, starting annual salary ranges from $70,153 to $85,344.

Additional Requirements: Must pass written and physical tests, polygraph exam, background check, physical and psychological exams, and drug testing.
Job Description Summary:

The department includes patrol, investigative, community resource, and communications divisions. Additional roles include tactical response, crash reconstruction, K9 unit, evidence technician, and range instructor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Patrol assigned areas, respond to service calls, enforce laws, and conduct criminal investigations.Operate department vehicles and equipment safely.
Provide traffic education, enforce regulations, and investigate vehicle incidents.
Perform emergency response duties and interact with the public and other agencies.
Participate in training and maintain qualifications in required skills, such as firearms and physical fitness.
Disqualifying Factors:
Criminal Record: Felony convictions, certain drug offenses, and dishonorable military discharge.Driving Record: Multiple moving violations or suspensions.
Drug Use: Recent use of illegal substances.
Employment History: Pattern of poor work habits or conduct issues.
Additional Considerations:
Residency Requirement: Successful candidates must reside in Shelby County or an adjacent county within one year of completing probation.Probationary Period: New officers are on probation until they complete 189 workdays after field training.
Seniority and Promotion: Eligibility for promotion to Sergeant requires five years of service as a Police Officer in Sidney.

Application Bonus:
Qualified Ohio military veterans receive a 20% bonus on exam scores with proper documentation of honorable discharge. OPOTA-certified applicants may also receive a 20% bonus on passing exam scores. The maximum bonus is 20%.
