Overall Position Summary and Objectives

Under this task order, the contractor will plan, organize, and assist in the research and outreach activities of the NHGRI Center for Genomics and Data Science Research under the supervision of the Center director. The contractor will serve as a central coordinator for Center projects, data repositories, seminars, scheduling, and other tasks as assigned.

The position will focus on genomic data science, specifically the areas of genome sequencing technologies and comparative genomics.

Statement of Work Details

Supports the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.
  • Design and conduct experiments and studies requiring the application of a broad professional knowledge of scientific theories and principles.
  • Coordinate and organize Center research projects, including data management, data analysis, project design, and scheduling 1
  • Independently research, evaluate, and incorporate new bioinformatics solutions for DNA sequencing and comparative genomics
Supports laboratory staff on research projects and techniques.
  • Work with staff on the interpretation of experiments performed by research scientists.
  • Assist with the execution of genomic research, including the mentorship of Center trainees 5
Maintains laboratory equipment and the training of others in their use.
  • Operate, troubleshoot and train others to use laboratory equipment and software.
  • Assist with the design, development, and deployment of genomics research software within high-performance and cloud computing environments 4
Assists in maintaining adequate space and facilities for ongoing and projected research studies.
  • Provide administrative support to senior members of the Center, such as equipment purchasing and maintenance of Center web pages 3
  • Assist with equipment purchasing and property tracking
Evaluates, analyzes and interprets research data, communicates results and methods in reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts.
  • Coordinate and organize Center outreach activities, including seminar series, lab meetings, and conferences 2
  • Provide detailed project documentation so that data can be reused and critical analyses reproduced
  • Effectively communicate and work with all staff and collaborators, and initiate interdisciplinary collaborations both within and external to the NIH
