POSITION: BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST (11 MONTH)

LOCATION: Special Education Department

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists teachers, principals, directors, and other school-based staff and central office personnel in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of special education services for students with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors, primarily to students with autism.

Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments; develop, implement and evaluate Behavior Intervention Plans. Provide direct support and consultation to classroom teams on behavior reduction, classroom management, crisis intervention, and skill acquisition.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and/or Supervisor(s) of Special Education

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications Needed:
Education: Masters degree and certification in special education, psychology, or a related field.
Certification:

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and working towards BCBA certification.

Experience: Providing behavior services for students with autism, developmental disabilities, and behavior disorders.

Working in an educational setting.

Skills and Abilities: Use technology (e.g., email, Microsoft Office) to analyze and share data.

Adapt to a fast-paced environment and handle physical tasks (bending, kneeling, etc.).
Manage severe behavior crises and provide non-violent intervention.
Work with families through training, home visits, and supervising home programs.
Communicate effectively with diverse groups.
Stay organized, maintain a positive attitude, and work well in teams.
Relate well to students, teachers, staff, and community members.

Hold a valid drivers license and have access to a car.

Job Responsibilities: Train staff on ABA principles and behavior management.

Support classroom teams with behavior reduction, crisis intervention, and skill development.
Guide administrators on effective disciplinary practices.
Oversee ABA curriculum and support families.
Provide professional development on behavior management and IEPs.
Participate in IEP meetings and complete paperwork on time.
Be a resource for behavior analysis and intervention.
Maintain certification and handle communications effectively.

Travel as needed and meet deadlines while working under stress.
