Overview:

The Medical Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health Services will help develop, operationalize, grow and monitor the delivery of quality of Psychiatric services throughout their designated inpatient care setting. This position will work closely with both the region’s Chief Medical Officer, System Behavioral Health Medical Director and System Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health to design and execute ARH’s Inpatient Behavioral Health strategy.

Responsibilities:

The Medical Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health Services (.1 FTE) will help develop, operationalize, grow and monitor the delivery of quality of Psychiatric services throughout their designated inpatient care setting. This position will work closely with both the region’s Chief Medical Officer, System Behavioral Health Medical Director and System Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health to design and execute ARH’s Inpatient Behavioral Health strategy.

The Medical Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health Services will serve as the primary clinical resource for Inpatient behavioral health providers. The Medical Director will be responsible for ensuring that providers are utilizing evidence-based therapeutics, helping develop and track Inpatient behavioral health quality measures, developing and implementing relevant policies and procedures and supporting physicians via mentorship, training, and education.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Assist Beh. Health providers in the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions;
  • Organize and lead initiatives to optimize quality care via the standardization of documentation templates and therapeutic protocols;
  • Work collaboratively with ARH Physician and Advanced Practice Provers and Clinicians to identify and operationalize Behavioral Health gaps across the organization’s Inpatient services;
  • Supervise Psychiatric Advanced Practice Providers;
  • Conduct in-service training and chart audits to ensure clinical quality across the organization’s Inpatient footprint;
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning;
  • Advocate for and liaison between OP Beh Health Providers and the Ambulatory and Beh. Health leadership teams;
  • Help address significant issues and barriers affecting Medical practice, safety, quality, and professionalism;
  • Coordinate Inpatient medical staff meetings to promote inclusion and communication of services;
  • Coordinate Inpatient Psychiatric schedules;
  • Participate in quality initiatives and utilization review activities as requested;
  • Provide assistance with transitioning inpatient referrals to outpatient services; and

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Minimum Work Experience
  • 1 Year of Medical Experience in a Behavioral Health Setting Required
  • Be or become an active physician member of the medical staff in good standing
AND
  • Demonstration of current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services to at least 60 patients during the past 24 months, which may include services provided during training.
  • Preference is given to those candidates who also have a working knowledge of management techniques and have prior successful service within a medical staff or service line structure, as a department chair, medical executive committee member, credentials committee member, chair of another medical staff committee, MSLC member, system board member, service line leader, medical director or other equivalent physician leadership position.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Board-Certified Psychiatrist through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Preferred)
  • Board-Eligible Psychiatrist through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Required)
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with the medical staffs, providers, clinical staff, management, and leaders across ARH
  • Willingness to stay up-to-date on best practices
  • Ability to advocate for the Behavioral Health Service Line’s interests in hospital and system operations and strategic planning
  • Ability to understand the regulatory and legal requirements affecting service lines
  • Basic computer knowledge is required
  • Ability to work independently within general guidelines
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to work with adolescents and adults experiencing mental health disturbances or dual diagnoses.
