Staff Accountant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its Finance function by performing complex accounting and analytical tasks. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will involve managing various aspects of the month-end close, preparing account reconciliations, and conducting ad hoc analyses.
The ideal candidate is an excellent problem solver with a keen eye for identifying efficiencies, experienced in working collaboratively across teams, and skilled at presenting insights to leadership and other departments. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, along with strong communication skills, is essential.

This position requires a self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and ready to challenge existing practices to improve processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly account reconciliations, including:
  • Inventory and related reserves
  • Allowances, returns, and other management estimates
  • Sales reconciliations
  • Accruals
  • Leases
  • Revenue recognition
  • Close Management: Use close management software to compile supporting documentation for account balances and maintain workflow records.
  • Manufacturing and COGS Analysis: Review manufacturing and other COGS variances to identify margin outliers.
  • Operations Collaboration: Partner with the operations and inventory management teams to compile and evaluate standard costs, inventory KPIs, and other metrics assessing operational performance.
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting: Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses, including:
  • Budget-to-actual variances by department
  • Expense line item details
  • Store-level P& L and KPI analyses
  • Departmental Insights: Meet individually with department leaders to review financial results and provide insights on performance.
  • Annual Filings: Ensure timely completion of 1099 filings.
  • Bank Reporting: Collaborate with other finance teams to compile monthly collateral reports for the bank.
  • Audit Support: Assist with preparing and organizing audit PBC (prepared by client) lists.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 0-2+ years of experience in Accounting or Audit.
  • Education: BBA or a four-year degree in Finance/Accounting.
  • Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy
