Job Description:

  • The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests and procedures necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The role requires proficiency in various lab techniques and equipment operation to ensure accurate and timely results.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. Ensure accurate and reliable results for use in diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Collect, process, and prepare samples for analysis according to standard operating procedures. Ensure proper labeling and storage of specimens.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment. Perform troubleshooting as needed to resolve issues and maintain optimal functionality.
  • Follow strict quality control protocols to ensure the accuracy and precision of test results. Perform routine quality checks and participate in quality assurance initiatives.
  • Record and report test results in the laboratory information system (LIS) accurately and timely. Maintain detailed records of procedures and results.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Handle hazardous materials according to safety guidelines.
  • Work closely with other lab personnel, physicians, and healthcare providers to ensure smooth laboratory operations and the timely delivery of test results.
  • Ensure all laboratory practices meet regulatory standards and accreditation requirements, such as CLIA and CAP guidelines.

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field from an accredited program.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certification as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) by a recognized certifying agency such as ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists) is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required upon hire).

Minimum Experience:

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred but not required for entry-level positions.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment is advantageous.
  • Successful completion of orientation and on-the-job training is required.
