Department Description:
Nurses in the Telehealth Nursing department demonstrate strong competency in using various telecommunication technologies to provide direct virtual nursing care. Telehealth Nursing RNs triage, prioritize patient needs, collaborate with patients to develop care plans, direct them to the appropriate level of care, and provide referrals to Emory services and other resources to ensure a comprehensive care experience.Telehealth Nursing LPNs assist patients with prescription management across specialties.
Department requirements:
- Please note a Compact / multi-state license is required for this role.
- LPNs will be required to work rotating weekends and holidays.
- Emory Healthcare’s Telehealth Nursing team is unable to guarantee you will have the same weekdays off following your weekend schedule.
- Training will be held onsite at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.

We are seeking a capable Licensed Practical Nurse / LPN who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients, and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Ambulatory Virtual/Telehealth nurse will have a deep understanding of patient populations, virtual care, and the nursing process and will use their knowledge and experience to effectively respond to changes in clinical situations using virtual platforms.Proficiency in the Synergy model for Care, coupled with the use of clinical protocols, and guidelines, is essential for systematically assessing patient needs. The Ambulatory Virtual/Telehealth LPN will demonstrate strong competency in using various telecommunication technologies to prioritize patient needs.
They will collaborate with patients with prescription management utilizing protocol orders. Responsibilities also include completing prior authorizations as needed, and routing medication renewal orders to providers for review as necessary per protocol.
Effective time management and attention to detail is crucial for delivering safe, dependable, and independent care. The Virtual/Telehealth LPN will also orient/train staff or students as assigned. Essential attributes include effective listening skills, conflict resolution abilities, and sensitivity to cultural differences in patient care.
Additionally, the Virtual/Telehealth LPN must be able to identify and implement courses of action in routine situations and seek assistance for complex issues while maintaining confidentiality. Personal accountability for professional development and participation in addressing discipline-specific issues are expected.
Maintenance of competencies for telehealth nursing is required.
- The telehealth team serves patients 24/7, weekends, holidays are required for this position.
- The LPN is part of the virtual/telehealth nursing team, which is devoted to delivering care services in an online and fast-paced setting.
- Assisting patients with medication management and appointment scheduling using various technologies including telephone, video, chat, and other interactive media
- Utilizing current evidence-based nursing practices and guidelines is required.
- Applying the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to professional practice
- Supporting the clinical and administrative operations of telehealth across practice settings
- Utilizing Emory approved technology and platforms in the delivery of patient care
- Serving as a liaison between patient and provider
- Resolving any pharmacy and/or medication issues in conjunction with provider order
- Documenting, updating, and maintaining patient medical records
- Identifying and reporting patient safety and quality issues
- Acting as an advocate for the patient
- Supporting the promotion of optimal health outcomes
- Educating patients on the provider’s plan of care
- De-escalating calls to a reasonable outcome for all parties
- Supporting other service lines as needed
- Participate and actively engage with the team and health system partners
- Attend staff meetings, huddles, organizational meetings, and other meetings as indicated
- Actively utilize /read TEAMS, email and other fluid informational materials to maintain current knowledge, systems initiatives, and other ongoing communications.
- Train, orient, educate new team members, students and others.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
- Valid, active, unencumbered nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board - Compact LPN license required within 60 days of hire.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Critical thinking and data synthesis.
- Strong telephone communication skills and computer skills are required.
- Effective communication skills over various mediums.
- Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills encompassing cultural, ethical, economic, and access to healthcare resource understanding when interacting with patients.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records and e-prescribing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS, Outlook and eMR and other electronic platforms.
- If work from home is assigned must sign and follow the Emory work from home agreement (WFH).
- Access to high-speed broadband and reliable internet in your home.
- Private and confidential workspace in your home.
- Computer proficiency in multiple systems, including intermediate knowledge of Windows-based applications (Microsoft Office suite, etc).
- Must complete and maintain nursing competencies for all components of virtual/telehealth nursing.
- Must meet minimum quality, safety and productivity metrics consistently.
- When scheduled to work must be actively working and following the virtual work policies.
