Position Summary:

The Vice President of Operations (VPO) is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing clinical service delivery, operational efficiency, and growth initiatives across all affiliated practices within the Anterior Division. This role integrates clinical innovation with operational excellence to enhance patient care, optimize workflows, and drive measurable financial and service line growth.

The VPO is responsible for advancing EyeSouth's clinical service line strategies to enhance patient care and drive organizational growth across affiliated practices. This role focuses on partnering with affiliates to expand high-priority service lines—such as premium cataract upgrades, interventional glaucoma, and dry eye services—by developing detailed, scalable, and repeatable playbooks and supporting their implementation to achieve targeted outcomes.

With substantial autonomy, this role prioritizes initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in patient care and financial performance, concentrating on high-impact areas to ensure robust playbooks and supporting resources are created. The role will remain at the forefront of emerging technologies, incorporating them into existing playbooks or creating new ones to capitalize on growth opportunities.

With a deep understanding of ophthalmic clinical workflows and operational challenges, this role partners closely with physicians, affiliate management, and cross-functional teams to implement scalable solutions. This role requires a hands-on approach, balancing high-level strategy with on-the-ground execution to ensure initiatives are successfully deployed and sustained across the organization.

The position also requires up to 50% travel for site visits, vendor meetings, and industry conferences.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Growth
  • Develop and execute the division’s clinical and operational strategy in partnership with the President of Anterior.
  • Lead the expansion and standardization of high-priority clinical service lines, ensuring scalable playbooks, training modules, and best practices are developed and deployed.
  • Oversee the Director of Clinical Processes, ensuring both roles drive measurable improvements in patient care and financial performance.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, driving efficiency in workflows, staffing, and clinical service offerings.
  • Serve as the key advisor on clinical operations, regulatory compliance, and service line development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Clinical Initiative Deployment & Service Line Growth
  • Lead the expansion of premium cataract, interventional glaucoma, and dry eye service lines, ensuring playbooks are practical, scalable, and effectively implemented.
  • Tracking and measuring performance of clinical initiatives through established KPIs and dashboards, leveraging analytics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Work directly with Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Regional Directors of Operations (RDOs), Practice Administrators, and Managing Partners to identify and deploy high-growth clinical service opportunities.
  • Partner with vendors, clinical leaders, and industry experts to stay at the forefront of ophthalmic innovations and ensure adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Facilitate training and education programs for physicians and staff to maximize engagement and adoption of clinical initiatives.
Operational Oversight & Standardization
  • Oversee the development and execution of standardized workflows, clinical processes, and patient experience initiatives across all affiliated practices.
  • Implement service line playbooks that include detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, financial considerations, and operational guidelines.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for surgery volume, patient outcomes, provider efficiency, and financial impact.
  • Collaborate with finance, analytics, and affiliate teams to drive scheduling optimization, resource allocation, and performance tracking.
  • Ensure all practices adopt best-in-class operational and clinical processes to improve access, efficiency, and patient retention.
Quality, Compliance & Patient Experience
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives, ensuring practices meet and exceed compliance, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Implement data-driven strategies to reduce surgery cancellations, patient no-shows, and inefficiencies across the division.
  • Partner with physicians and leadership to ensure all clinical strategies align with evidence-based practices and industry-leading standards.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Develop and oversee budgets for clinical operations, service line initiatives, and workflow standardization.
  • Conduct ROI analysis to determine the financial impact of clinical initiatives, including equipment investments, pricing strategies, and revenue growth projections.
  • Optimize cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality patient care standards.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and develop the Director of Clinical Processes, ensuring clear accountability and execution of their responsibilities.
  • Foster collaboration between clinical, administrative, and operational teams to align goals, share best practices, and drive engagement.
  • Serve as a liaison between executive leadership, clinical teams, and affiliate practices, ensuring transparency, alignment, and execution of key initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or a related field (required); Masters degree or clinical degree (RN, OD, PA, NP, or similar) a plus.
  • Experience in a large multi-state Physician Practice Management (PPM) or Management Services Organization (MSO) within healthcare required.
