Position Summary:

The Senior Tax Accountant serves as the lead for key tax functions in the areas of income, sales and use taxes, and indirect taxes. The Senior Tax Accountant also performs duties for the Financial Reporting function on accounting and financial projects as time permits.

The Senior Tax Accountant also works with and mentors staff accountants on various tax related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities::

  • Reviews supporting workpapers and prepares complex deliverables in connection with annual income tax compliance.
  • Leads tax remittance process for income taxes and personal property taxes and reviews real property tax remittances to ensure payments are timely made and accurately applied.
  • Assists in tax audits and responds to tax notices via providing explanations and leading document requests.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory tax developments and communicates their effects on the company to the Tax Manager.
  • Supervises the company’s tax functions across income taxes, sales and use taxes, and indirect taxes.
  • Acts as primary liaison between onshore and offshore teams for sales tax and personal property taxes.
  • Reviews personal property tax returns and actively works with assessor offices to facilitate the timely filing of personal property returns.
  • Files complex sales and use tax, personal property and gross receipt tax returns.
  • Aids with tax-related onboarding tasks for new acquisitions such as sales tax enrollments, real property tax prorations, and initial personal property tax filings.
  • Develops and implements process improvements within the company’s tax functions.
  • Conducts technical research and document findings as needed.
  • Mentors staff on tax related tasks such as sales and use tax filings, tax payment processing, personal property tax filings, etc.
  • Serves as primary expert on use tax matters related to fixed asset purchases.
  • Completes month-end close activities such as account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and clinic analysis.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required; master’s degree is plus.
  • CPA accreditation is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of Tax experience required, preferably in a Public Accounting
  • Well-rounded tax background, including exposure to corporate income tax, partnership tax, state and local tax, sales and use tax.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills are necessary as this position will be required to present complex information in a clear, digestible
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational
  • Proven track record of successfully meeting deadlines while producing high quality
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal direction from manager to accomplish daily tasks.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills are a must to complete multiple projects

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates and collaborates with co-workers in the office.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the office to meet with employees and utilize office machinery.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with managers at remote locations using email and phone. Must be able to exchange clear, accurate information in these situations.

Technical Skills::

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and overall tax concepts with an emphasis on income tax.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
