About the position:
The Senior Director, Treasury and Investments, along with the CFO and the VP-Finance, Planning and Grants, determines the vision, strategy and operations of the treasury and cash management functions for Americares worldwide. She/he advises senior management and Board of Directors on organizational asset investment matters and provides timely and accurate management reports to support the function.
Operationally, the Senior Director assures the efficient management and recording of the organization’s cash, including investing funds in appropriate vehicles for short- and long-term needs, providing analytical reports and modeling to enable informed management decision making and managing relationship with various financial service vendors for optimum service and pricing.

Duties of this position also include the cashflow modeling and cash management between Americares’ accounts around the world, review and reconciliation of the monthly statements from Americares’ money managers, management and coordination of the Investment Manager (outsources consultancy), the banking relationships, and the management of any of Americares’ letters of credit with donors.

Key Outcomes:

In the first 90 days, the Senior Director will:

  • Learn and live the Americares values.
  • Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.
  • Develop working knowledge of the organization’s banking, investment, and other treasury systems and functions.
  • Refine and create detailed cash flow model.
  • Build relationships across the organization to facilitate proactive information gathering, ensuring as accurate a forecast as possible.

In the first 6 months, the Senior Director will:

  • Adjust cash management strategy as needed to reflect level of contingency funding in operating accounts, while ensuring adequate cash liquidity for operations.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a high standard of discipline and vigilance for optimal cash management.

In the first year, the Senior Director will:

  • Integrate cash flow forecast with budgeting, ongoing revenue, and expense forecasting.
  • Create higher standard of KPIs, scenario planning, and stress testing around cash management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Treasury Operations
  • Manages the relationships with financial institutions/banks and oversees the administration of bank accounts. Analyzes and recommends new banking products available to create efficiencies.
  • Owns cashflow forecast modeling (in/outflows).
  • Actively manages Americares cash and cash equivalent resources by ensuring cash resources are in the required locations.
  • Provides support for treasury-related transactions and ensures that these are properly reflected in the general ledger, reviews monthly investment analysis and reconciliations.
  • Reviews payables invoices for wire payments and approves payment on the online banking system.
  • Oversees administration and management of stock gifts program and CGA program; the management and accounting of cash received and invested; and Foreign Exchange policy trades.
  • Execute compliance with donor regulations and financial management policies and procedures around payments, receivables, and drawdowns of cash from letters of credit.
  • Oversee public and private grant drawdowns to ensure efficient cash to meet funding requirements. Maintains proper records for audits.
  • Oversees the coordination and preparation of all investment and endowment-related schedules in the footnotes to the external financial statements.
  • Performs as investment advisor of the 401k plan and is an active participant in the plan’s management committee.
  • Assists in other non-Treasury Finance related projects on an as needed basis.
Treasury Strategy, Controls, Systems, and Training
  • Determines with the CFO and the VP-Finance, the vision and strategy for Treasury, develops operational plan and ensures achievement of results. Create a global banking strategy with CFO and the VP-Finance and taking into consideration local needs and opportunities. Develop RFPs to understand and evaluate the services provided by financial institutions.
  • Develops and recommends financial policies, procedures, controls and systems relating to the Treasury function. Documents, communicates, and trains staff on all applicable policies, procedures and processes.
  • Builds the financial systems and capacity at Americares to effectively manage cash resources.
  • Responsible for approving and being a signor on domestic bank accounts.
  • Manages the Americares corporate card program ensuring the product offered is relevant, efficient and complies with the organization’s needs.
  • Leads efforts to implement new technological innovations in banking and for Americares to participate on federal loans and proposes solutions such as application for and forgiveness of PPP loans.
Work with the Board of Directors
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the investments portion of the Finance Committee of the Board.
  • Oversees the activities of the external investment advisor in the identification and selection of investment managers and funds.
  • Develops and communicates the Investment Policy Statement and ensures the guidelines are followed.

Degrees and/or experience required for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of nonprofit experience and a track record that includes finance, treasury, and cash management, and their related systems

These competencies are required for the role:

  • Expert knowledge of principles, practices, regulations and techniques associated with cash management (including Federal), banking and investment management.
  • Demonstrated successful ownership of treasury and cash management strategies, and creating and achieving positive KPI results.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across teams, with a focus on relationship and results, and an ability to drive solutions, resolutions, and buy-in.
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making.

US work authorization is required for this role.

  • Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
