Material Handler

At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Material Handler based in our Chatsworth, California manufacturing plant! In this role, you will be responsible for operating forklift to complete various required tasks within the operation.
Tasks to include supporting production operations by staging of required materials, completing inventory cycle counts, staging, and loading of Finished Goods to ship out, receiving tasks, managing WIP inventory among other assigned tasks. This person is to ensure following FIFO, checking, and documenting all relevant information completely and completing tasks on a timely manner.

This person will be required to work safely in the warehouse environment. Finally, follow all safety procedures as stated in GMP, safety standards, plant rules, and code of ethics.

The base compensation for this position is $22.75 per hour and is eligible for overtime. This is a unionized role based on site and the work schedule is as follows (subject to availability):

  • Second Shift (Days): 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm (Monday – Friday with occasional Saturday)

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Obtain and maintain necessary certifications to safely operate equipment
  • Ensure all documentation (written or digital) is filled out in a clear, legible, accurately (per format) and completed with all required and necessary information
  • Review and inspect all information for accuracy
  • Properly complete assigned tasks as specified in the Warehouse, Shipping or Receiving SOPs.
  • Maintain FIFO inventory system of all finished product, semi-finished, raw ingredients, and packaging materials and maintain quality and integrity of materials
  • Perform and ensure operational and safety inspections of equipment
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and warehouse leads regarding recurring problems or needs for repairs that will impact safety, quality and/or service
  • Maintain communication with other departments, management and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and 5S methodology to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area, maintaining audit ready status at all times
  • Works diligently to achieve Business Unit Goals
  • Ensure clean and organize work area
  • Supports plant operation and priorities to achieve plant goals
  • Facilitate, attend, and participate in team meetings and programs
  • Assist, train, and coach employees.
  • Comply with all regulations, policies, and procedures (i.e., Safety, Quality, Food Safety)
  • Be crossed train in other functions of the warehouse operation
  • Complete all other duties and tasks as assigned

The employee will work in a Warehouse / Manufacturing area temperature that will vary from 0 degrees F to 100 degrees F depending on the outside temperature and the refrigerated cooler temperatures. Employee in protective gear may spend limited time in the walk-in food refrigerator and freezer at a temperature of approximately 34 degrees.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 1 - 3 months related experience and / or training in a similar environment where staging and picking is required of finished goods; or equivalent combination of education that would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required is acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Production and Processing Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of safety
  • Certified to operate a Powered Industrial Truck – a forklift and electric pallet jack
  • Knowledge of item numbers, pallet building, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of SAP/Tekdan and using a scan gun (as of 9/1/22)
  • For Material Handlers that also drive company trucks:
  • Have a valid Class C CA Driver’s License
  • Have a clean DMV record, with no record of DIU in past 5 years or no-fault accident in the past three years
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 60lbs
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents in such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Reasoning Abilities:

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • OSHA certification on powered industrial vehicles.
