Wieland is hiring a Transportation Supervisor. The Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for managing asset utilization and drivers to ensure a high delivery of customer service and fleet provitability. The Transportation Supervisor will effectively and efficiently handle customer service complaints and concerns.This s position is responsible for complying with federal, state and company policies, local laws, transportation programs, and regulations. This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on site.
Responsibilities:
Transportation Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Direct management and oversight of the Transportation Coordinators’ and day to day operations.
- Provide communication to truck drivers and teams to coordinate OTR drivers to support business objectives.
- DOT management of records (driver files, trainings, coordination of required testing) including adherence to FMCSA rules and regulations.
- Training updates for DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations including communication of updates and procedures to OTR drivers (including new hires).
- OTR planning of truck routes and dispatch support including review of payroll records weekly to ensure accuracy.
- Equipment Inspections: Ensure daily pre-trip and post-trip assessments, audit DVIR compliance, and ensure tractor cleanliness.
- Provide leadership and training for Transportation Coordinator of in/out bound loads with scale operator.
- Manage equipment for inventory and maintenance repairs (red tag trailers/equipment when repair is needed, coordinate w/ maintenance team to ensure repair, let team know of available equipment) including coordination of external repair facilities and communication of available equipment.
- Provide leadership and training for Shipping and Receiving Clerk and Customer Service Specialist with customers and buyers to maintain good business relationships including brokerage operations.
- Provide leadership and oversight of accounting for Shipping and Receiving Clerk to ensure accuracy for submission to the finance team. Receivables for customer loads outside of GC product.
- Handle urgent situations in a professional manner.
- Driver Safety Advocate: Promote a safe work environment through effective communication, training, safety meetings, and awareness programs.
- Maintain fleet in a safe manner in accordance with company and governmental standards. Comply effectively with company work and safety rules.
- Understanding of and working knowledge of transportation systems and processes, productivity standards, and technology.
- Enforce company policies and issuance of coaching/disciplinary documentation to employees.
- Exhibit leadership and maintain level of managerial professionalism at all times.
- Commitment to lead by example and to a growth mindset as a leader, customer advocate and a contributor.
Transportation Supervisor Qualifications:
- Have 7+ years’ experience in all facets of outbound transportation, preferably in a recycling facility.
- Must be at least 22 years old, have a minimum of 10 years of experience and possess a valid Class A CDL license.
- Clean driving record. Not Cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous three years.
- Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
- Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment.
- Be skilled in Microsoft Office Suite products, Excel, Word, and Access programs.
- High school diploma
- 5+ years of documented transportation supervisory experience.
- 5+ years of route scheduling experience.
- Effectively communicate with team members and carriers.
- Results-orientated with strong organizational, decision making and people skills.
- Ability to react quickly and re-prioritize loads quickly.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
- Conduct training for personnel related to DOT/FMCSA for drivers and train Transportation Coordinators on job specific skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Willingness to support a 24-hour operation, including carrying an emergency cell phone as needed.
- Strong customer service skills, including verbal and written communication skills.
- Strategic movement of employee/trucking lines
- 5+ years of DOT/FMCSA knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work offsite in a productive manner.
