The Week magazine is looking for a full-time researcher to fact-check news articles and compile news dossiers, working in a fast setting. It’s an ideal role for someone looking to really get started in the world of news journalism. For this role you will report into the Editor in Chief

What you'll be doing

As Research Editor at The Week, you’ll support writers and editors in sifting the news in other outlets, and ensuring the accuracy of every story that appears in the magazine. We are looking for a genuine interest in the news — from politics to arts to business — and an ability to absorb and analyze a great volume of material to check facts on tight deadlines.

The researchers are a crucial part of the team at The Week, responsible for carefully fact checking every story before it goes into the magazine. We aim for 100 percent accuracy — a major part of why readers continue to turn to us in a world flooded with news options.

  • Rigorously check articles before publication for factual errors, often on a tight deadline
  • Conduct independent research across a variety of high-quality sources, including U.S. and international news outlets, scientific journals, and reports from government agencies and NGOs.
  • Discuss any fact-related issues with writers and editors, and help to identify solutions
  • Compile dossiers of news analysis and opinion writing for editors.
  • Help manage the digital app edition of The Week.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
  • Background in journalism or fact-checking.
  • Previous working skills in news driven setting
  • A genuine interest in news.
  • Obsessive levels of detail and accuracy.
