Position Description:
This position will provide launch vehicle and spacecraft debris analysis support to the Aerosciences branch (EV33) in the Structural Design and Analysis Division (EV30) at the MSFCs Spacecraft and Vehicle Systems Department.
Responsibilities:
Perform basic engineering analyses and apply physics-based models for the prediction of damage due to launch debris environments.
Sort, catalog, and document detailed launch debris parameters, assessment results and risk summaries for multiple launch vehicles supporting vehicle hazard assessments.

Support coordination of data between multiple NASA and contractor organizations, supporting development of memos and reports for data delivery for debris catalogs, debris transport analyses, debris damage threshold assessments, and hazard reports.

Support reviews and/or development of launch debris related documentation including but not limited to NASA imagery reports, design drawings and specifications, contractor reports, hazard reports, and launch process procedures.
Support the production and processing of documentation required for test operations such as safety assessments, standard operating procedures, and test readiness reviews.
Prepare and present modeling and test results to technical teams and review boards.
Develop and deliver analysis products, documents, presentations, and action item responses.
Participate in reviews, meetings, teleconferences, and working groups.
Communicate issues, best practices, lessons-learned and other technical positions related to debris analysis and tests.
Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks.
Deliver project briefings to all levels of management.
Provide clear and effective communications with internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)

Qualifications:
A degree in an engineering specialty from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 5+ years (or Masters with 3+ years) of space vehicle design experience.
Experience in applying physics-based models for engineering analysis.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++ or MATLAB and their application to modeling and simulation.
Experience with developing models and performing simulations using Multiphysics simulation software packages such as Ansys LS-DYNA.
Knowledge of basic space vehicle design, functions, terminology, interfaces, technical disciplines, and system design.
Experience with command ling interfaces and the Linux operating system.
Experience in CAD software such as Creo.
Knowledge of material properties and mechanics of materials as applied in space vehicles.
Self-motivated, proactive, and effective team players with customer relations skills, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to perform tasks requiring focus and attention to detail and completed within prescribed organizational schedules.
Ability to be flexible and easily refocus on tasks when task directions or requirements change.
Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders, organizing, and facilitating meetings/technical discussions.
Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook) are required.

Excellent written and oral technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering disciplines.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
