Overview:

The Prep Cook, reporting to the Chef Manager, will be responsible for day-to-day food preparation and service in our corporate café. Duties will include working the counter, prepping and preparing food, processing orders and payments, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

The Prep Cook must possess excellent customer service skills to ensure a positive experience for our team members and building guests. This role plays a key role in kitchen opening and closing operations.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 6:00am-3:00pm, and Fridays off

Responsibilities:

Food Preparation
  • Coordinate aspects of the in-house Café, including working in the kitchen, handling food prep, and preparing and serving food.
  • Work in a variety of café stations for breakfast, lunch and a la carte.
  • Set up and break down food stations, deli and salad bar.
  • Prepare food to meet the individual specifications of guests, in a timely manner and in accordance with established recipes.
  • Properly measure kitchen ingredients and food portions ensuring effective cost control.
  • Assist Chef Manager with catering orders, event set up and tear down.
  • Continuously use kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, stoves, induction burners, and warmers in food preparation.
Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary working environment that complies with the local and state Health Inspectors’ reports.
  • Perform regular cleaning duties including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Ensure food is prepared, dated, and stored properly and within safety and sanitary guidelines (i.e., temperature control).
  • Assist with maintaining the café preventative maintenance and scheduled/unscheduled repairs and maintenance.
Order Processing
  • Take and process customer orders using a point of service system.
  • Place inventory orders and work closely with café vendors.
Physical Demands of the Role
  • Continuously grasp/grip, push/pull, bend, twist/turn, carry, walk, stand, and reach above shoulder level throughout the shift.
  • Frequently move equipment and boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently work in a noisy environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and seldomly work in inclement weather.
  • Occasionally climb and seldomly kneel and sit throughout the shift.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or culinary certification
  • 3+ years of experience in a culinary setting
  • Serve Safe certified
  • Basic understanding of local and state health regulations with experience in maintaining a kitchen to comply with local and state Health Inspections
  • Familiar with restaurant point of sale software (Toast, Clover, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong decision-making ability and judgment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail, efficient, and organized with an ability to establish priorities and objectives
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
  • Dedicated learner with a natural curiosity for consistent growth
  • Exhibits comfort, ease, and flexibility working in an extremely fast-paced ever-changing, deadline-driven environment
  • Cooperative team player with an upbeat, positive, “can-do” attitude!
  • Must be able to work early morning shifts, work in a noisy environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals, move equipment and boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, and continuously move around the kitchen for the entirety of a working shift
