About the role

Steer North America is looking for an experienced, motivated, self-starting, problem-solver and collaborative professional to fill our Staff Accountant position. This person will be working in our North American Finance Team in support of financial, management, project, and tax accounting, which has contributed to our companys ongoing success in the United States, Canada, and beyond.

This person will be a contributing member of Steers North American Business Delivery Group, which is comprised of finance, human resources, marketing, legal, L&D, recruitment, facilities, and IT experts. In combination, these disciplines provide us with the breadth and depth to deliver integrated and innovative solutions to the organization.

Our Global Finance unit brings together a mix of international finance professionals. We combine our understanding of people, context and function to deliver innovative solutions which helps to make Steer successful.

The Staff Accountant will work in a dynamic environment across functions and borders and provide wider support to our business for Steers internal initiatives.

With a focus on the US business, the Staff Accountant will:

  • Support and/or oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including, but not limited to:
  • General Ledger transactions, journals, and reconciliations including balance sheet
  • Accounts Payable transactions, payments, and administration
  • Accounts Receivable transactions, receipts posting, and debt collections
  • Cash management and forecasting
  • Fixed Assets register and depreciation expense management
  • month and end-year process, support with annual audits
  • Prepare reports and coordinate activities with internal and external advisors on Federal, State, and local tax compliance
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
  • Coordinate proper accounting methods and principles to protect company assets
  • Assist Head of Finance with revenue recognition, Executive reporting, and other tasks
  • Collaborate with colleagues on payroll, insurance, and other matters
  • Help improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
  • Assist in the development of the team and mentor early career professionals

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Eligible candidates for this role will possess the following attributes:

  • Academic achievement in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and at least 1 accounting software or ERP program
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • 6 - 8 years relevant experience
  • CPA license, progress towards, or desire to pursue
  • Mastery of Excel and ERP platforms
  • Experience supervising and coaching junior accounting staff
  • An ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to learn quickly and find enjoyment through the development of new skills
  • Task and effectively prioritize workloads, manage time, and meet strict deadlines
  • Superior time-management and prioritization practices
  • The ability to work autonomously yet in collaboration with other colleagues and our Clients

Work Environment

All Steer employees seeking a full-time opportunity are encouraged to spend 60% of their time either in office or on-site with clients. An employees typical work week consists of 40 hours. Hours, expectations, and exemption status will be adjusted for any applicant seeking a part-time opportunity.

Compensation

The salary range for New York office applicants are $100,000 to $125,000 USD.

Do be advised that this is an estimated benchmark salary of good faith for the States of New York and California. All compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account.

In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward.

Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.

For our US applicants, we offer a competitive package of benefits including private medical, dental, and vision insurance, commuter benefits, a group Share Incentive Plan, a 3% 401k contribution and a discretionary yearly bonus based on annual compensation (dependent upon individual and company performance).

Additionally, we offer 20 vacation days, 9 paid holidays, 3 floating holidays, 10 paid sick days, and a bi-annual performance review process.
