Job Overview:

A leading organization is seeking a Principal Engineer/Estimator to join the Global Engineering team. This role is critical in delivering cost-effective and innovative solutions for capital projects, ensuring maximum value and successful execution.

The selected candidate will provide technical support for estimating capital projects from feasibility studies through final funding, execution, and start-up. This position requires strong estimating and benchmarking skills, supporting projects ranging from under $5MM to over $500MM in Total Installed Cost (TIC).

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead estimating efforts for capital and expense projects and studies, collaborating with AE/CM and multi-discipline project teams.
• Prepare Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates, including conceptual schedules and staffing plans for concept and siting studies.
• Collect and validate estimate data from multiple internal and external sources.
• Review and assess all cost and scope aspects of third-party estimates, ensuring alignment in a collaborative setting.
• Evaluate equipment supplier and trade partner estimates.
• Lead estimate risk analysis sessions.
• Implement project cost trending and Target Value Delivery (TVD) from concept through final funding.
• Support project benchmarking efforts both internally and externally.
• Manage estimating cost databases, equipment databases, and cost modeling tools.
• Lead the preparation of project return cost data and close-out reports.
• Assist with front-end project planning and funding processes, including schedule, resources, market analysis, and risk assessment.
• Direct and oversee internal and external estimating resources within the region.
• Mentor estimating team members and guide project teams through the FEL (Front-End Loading) process.
• Establish project budgets using standard Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and assist in trade bid package cost tabulations.
• Collaborate with Estimating Steward, Global Capital Procurement, and external suppliers to assess market conditions and integrate findings into estimates.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Industrial experience in regulated industries, such as pharmaceuticals or life sciences.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in estimating.
• Strong knowledge of estimating, capital management, and financial processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of leadership across multiple assignments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to assess market trends across different geographical regions.

Preferred:

• Broad knowledge of biopharmaceutical industry project types (e.g., drug substance, drug product, lab, large molecule, small molecule).
• Experience in Lean Project Delivery Methodologies (e.g., Target Value Delivery).
• Knowledge of Estimating and Information Management Systems.
• Background in strategic planning or portfolio management.
• Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and change management.
• Familiarity with AE, CM, and Professional Service provider estimating methods.
