Responsibilities:

The Athletic Trainer Coordinator functions in four primary roles:

  1. As a traditional athletic trainer. In this capacity, the athletic trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic health services to include pre-practice and pre-game preparation, injury/illness evaluation, first aid emergency care, follow-up rehabilitation, and related services all under the advice and consent of a licensed team physician. The athletic trainer may be asked to function in this role at an educational institution and at community athletic events.
  2. As an athletic trainer in the physician practice setting in this capacity, the athletic trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive health services to injury/illness evaluation, including precise documentation for all patient interactions and encounters and responsible for assisting with the coordination of care for athletes through interaction across the enterprise.
  3. The Athletic Trainer Coordinator functions as an extension of the Manager of Athletic Training, Community Outreach and Clinical Integration supporting day-to-day operations of the Sports Medicine Institute and related duties for the sports medicine program.
  4. In addition, the Athletic Trainer coordinator will be the lead, and point-person for community-based events in addition to supporting the needs determined by the Manager of Athletic Training, Community Outreach and Clinical Integration, to support UofL Health’s position as official healthcare provider for University of Louisville Athletics, and partnerships with local high schools.
  • Assist with the coordination of care for athletes through interaction across the enterprise.(ex: scheduling MRI, surgery etc)
  • Responsible for providing comprehensive health services to injury/illness evaluation, including precise documentation for all patient interactions.
  • Strong collaboration with physicians, patients, staff and the broader health care community

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field from an accredited college/university (preferred). Master’s degree in athletic training or related field from an accredited college/university (required). Residency (preferred)

Required Experience: Varies based on practice setting and programmatic needs of the facility. Experience working with D-1 athletics/professional athletic programs. Experience working with community members. General knowledge of the healthcare system, clinical procedures, and previous interaction with physicians

Licensure: Nationally certified by the National Board of Certification. Licensed or eligible in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or State of Indiana, as appropriate to the facility.

Skills: Clinical skills required vary based on practice setting and programmatic needs of the facility. Experience as an athletic trainer on the sideline, and within the physician/clinical practice are strongly preferred. Experience in a high school or collegiate environment preferred.

Effective time management. Effective oral and written communication skills.
