THE POSITION

Supplier Quality Engineer, ContiTech USA, Inc., Auburn, IN:

Ensure the quality and reliability of products and services delivered by our automotive suppliers by developing, testing and implementing quality management systems. Conduct audits and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with automotive industry standards and customer requirements.

For new projects: Responsible for conducting supplier component reviews to ensure product industrialization process through APQP methodology or VDA MLA to meet customer specific requirements and IATF 16949 automotive requirements. Support the approval of initial samples (PPAP) in cooperation with quality department for defined customer projects and review of process failure mode and effects analysis and initial control plans.

Conduct supplier capacity audits (Run at Rates) on site and ensure supplier meets product and process specifications in case of new projects or volume increase. Deploy an effective safe launch plan and monitor continuously, in case any issues, guide the supplier through 8D methodology to implement corrective actions.

Develop and implement a comprehensive supplier quality management program, ensuring compliance with quality standards such as IATF 16949. Evaluate and qualify new automotive suppliers, including conducting initial and periodic audits through VDA 6.3 and IATF 16949 audits to assess their capabilities and ensure adherence quality requirements.
Collaborate with suppliers on the development of supplier quality agreements, establishing clear expectations for quality standards and performance. Lead and facilitate cross-functional teams in root cause analysis through 8D methodology and corrective action initiatives for supplier quality issues, driving continuous improvement and preventing recurrence.
Conduct regular supplier performance reviews, utilizing metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess supplier performance and identify areas for improvement or noncompliance. Lead supplier development and escalation activities, including statistical process control (SPC) implementation, lean production initiatives, monitor and analyze supplier quality data, identifying trends, patterns, and opportunities for process optimization.
Conduct thorough risk assessments on critical suppliers and develop and implement appropriate controls to ensure continuity of supply. Collaborate with engineering and purchasing teams to develop and communicate quality requirements, specifications, and expectations to suppliers effectively.

Provide technical expertise and guidance in resolving complex quality-related issues, including customer complaints and warranty claims through robust methodologies such as 8D or Six Sigma process.

Full time employment, Monday Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors degree in Engineering (any), Operations Management, Quality Systems, or a related field and 2 years of related work experience.

Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

Conducting supplier audits using the VDA 6.3 standard; Conducting audits of Stamping, Machining, Plastic Injection molding, Aluminum Die Casting and Welding processes; Performing Automotive Quality Management System (AQMS) audits in accordance with IATF 16949; Using MLA (Maturity Level Assurance for New Parts); Using quality tools including APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) Gage R&R, SPC (Statistical Process Control), Control Plan and PFMEA VDA; Applying problem solving techniques, including 8D (Problem Solving in 8 Disciplines), Six Sigma, DMAIC Process and Lean Production; and

Working as a supplier quality engineer in the automotive industry managing suppliers.

Must have 1 year of experience evaluating CQI systems, including CQI-15 (Welding), CQI 23 (Injection molding) and CQI-11 (Plating).

Must have IATF 16949 and VDA 6.3 Process Audit certifications or be able to gain both certifications within 1 year of start date.

International travel required up to 30%. Domestic travel required up to 50%.
