Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant is trained to perform approved nursing tasks and technical procedures under the direction of a nurse. Assist nurses in providing patient care per Nursing Service policy and procedure as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and the area of clinical practice.Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu by fostering an awareness of the Behavioral Health Services patient population. Communicate respect by honoring personal space, using a non- threatening/non-challenging/non-judgmental approach. Perform phlebotomy, BGM, vital signs, collect and process specimens.
Report/refer issues/abnormal data to the nurse as needed and complete the related documentation. Assist the patients with activities of daily living which and follows the Infection Control Policy. Identify changes in the patients’ condition and basic patient care needs.
Institutes appropriate interventions per policy and refers accordingly to the nurse and BHS provider. Demonstrate knowledge of the established 1:1 patient observation protocol (Constant Observation). Maintain a safe environment for the patients and staff and applies the appropriate precautions and protocols such as patient/property/room searches and razor protocol and “Safety Rounds”.
Document patient care or unit tasks in the patients’ medical records (Electronic and hard copy).Prepares, assists and follows “Down Time” procedures. Communicate therapeutically during every patient interaction/encounter. Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to the rights of the patient.
Maintains the dignity and confidentiality of the patient and follows the established Patient Identification Policy.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant certification required. Current CPR/BLS certification required. Spanish speaking preferred.
