Job Overview
The South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners is establishing a Full-Time Eligibility List. Applicants are required to complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) with the National Testing Network and the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District Full-Time Application.Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted by October 25, 2024.

Starting salary: $70,823.93After 1 year: $76,668.51
After 5 years: $98,588.22

Minimum RequirementsU.S. Citizenship
Age: Must be between 21 and 35 years old at the time of application
High School diploma or equivalentValid Drivers License
No felony convictions
Must possess or obtain the following within the first year of employment: Basic Operations Firefighter certification
IDPH Paramedic or EMT-Basic licenseSuccessful completion of a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification within the last 12 months
Vision must be correctable to 20/20
Ability to read and speak English
Additional Requirements (Upon Conditional Offer of Employment)
Valid drivers license
Psychological and medical examinations
Basic Operations Firefighter and IDPH Paramedic License, or
Basic Operations Firefighter and IDPH EMT-Basic (enrolled in a paramedic program), or
IDPH Paramedic License
Selection Process
Testing: Applicants must complete the online testing with the National Testing Network between September 16, 2024, and October 25, 2024.
Interviews: The Board of Fire Commissioners will conduct interviews the week of November 4-8, 2024.
Applicants must submit copies of the following by October 25, 2024:
Birth CertificateHigh School Diploma/GED
Valid Illinois Drivers License
Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter certification
CPAT certification with ladder endorsement within the last 12 months
Preference Points:
Eligible candidates may submit for preference points based on veteran status, education, or experience. Veterans preference points (up to 5) and educational preference points (2 for an Associate's Degree, 4 for a Bachelor's Degree) will be awarded.
Additional points may be granted based on years of service as a firefighter/paramedic.

South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District is a progressive emergency service organization serving approximately 30,000 people within 26 square miles, including South Elgin, Bartlett, and surrounding areas. The District responded to approximately 3,950 fire and EMS incidents in 2023 and is on track for 4,000 calls in 2024.
