Position Overview:

Power your future with Qualus in our Protection and Control department as a Relay Field Technician. As Relay Field Technician is responsible for performing engineering activities in data centers and other field environments under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, Project Manager and/or General Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the skills to provide technical capabilities for installing, adjusting, and troubleshooting relays.
  • Develop the skills to support the sales effort by assisting with labor estimates and job walks.
  • Participate in a training and development program to achieve a comprehensive knowledge of electrical fundamentals, electrical transmission and distribution equipment and its operation, and a high degree of skill in routine P&C functions.
  • Remain current on all safety and technical training.
  • Collect field data and perform arc flash studies, coordination studies and short circuit analysis.
  • Provide technical insight with regard to substation systems and electrical power systems.
  • Adhere to all company, industry and client safety protocol and standards.
  • Be proficient in the use of construction equipment, test equipment and tools required for routine maintenance and installation of equipment assigned to SC&M, such as man lifts, bucket trucks, transformer and breaker testing equipment and relay test equipment without direct supervision and direction.
  • Must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of both AC and DC applications including the measurements of 3 phase power quantities and the normal control and protective schemes utilized in the industry.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the pressure and vacuum systems commonly used in the industry.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years related experience in relay testing
  • Two-year degree or technical school graduate; or relative field experience of minimum 4 years may be considered in lieu of technical school.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
  • Ability to add, subtract, and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English.
  • NETA or NICET certification encouraged.
  • Must have hands-on experience with test equipment such as M400, 6150, CMC-256, CMC-356, etc.
  • Valid Driver’s license and good driving record
