Director of Food Service – Blue Ridge School District

The Director of Food Services is responsible for operating in compliance with all requirements of the Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as they pertain to the National School Lunch Program, The School Breakfast Program, the Special Milk Program and other summer school lunch programs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree preferred; preferably in business management, food service management or nutrition.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
• Professional performance and ethical behavior in school food service
• Superior communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment required.
• Child Abuse, PA Criminal History and FBI Fingerprint clearances required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Administers compliance with the USDA requirements, to ensure proper usage, valuation, processing, storage, and monitoring procedures are being followed for government commodities under the Bureau of Government Donated Food.
• Administers Community Eligibility Program (CEP), including proper sales and meal counting procedures, lunch claim calculation worksheets, edit checks, and reimbursement processes as required by PDE and USDA.
• Works collaboratively with District Business Office on all fiscal matters of the Food Service Department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, cash flow, banking, electronic credit card payments, financial reports, and budget preparation.
• Actively involved in daily activities of food production as they relate to purchasing, receiving, storage, inventory controls, meal requirements, customer preferences, district needs, policies, nutrition standards, marketing, safety, sanitation, and HACCP.
• Oversees standards for hiring, professional development, contract agreements, discipline, and evaluation of food service personnel; including training standards for school nutrition program professionals.
• Keeps abreast of trends and developments in areas of responsibility by maintaining proper relationship with Federal, State, and Local Agencies, other school districts, and community partners.
• Responsible for inventory control and management; including maintaining food security, safety, and sanitation, in compliance with regulatory agency standards.
• Evaluates procurement options for purchase of food and supplies in accordance with PDE & UGG guidelines.
• Maintains records of student allergies and dietary restrictions.
• Works collaboratively with District Technology Department to maintain a comprehensive technology infrastructure to achieve the operational goals of the school nutrition program.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Local Wellness Policy requirements as mandated by PDE and USDA.
• Develops and coordinates District nutrition education program.
