CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Mission Systems is looking for an Advanced Electrical Engineer for our Progeny Business Area. As a key member of a cross functional team, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of advanced acoustic systems (including active sonar transmission, acoustic sensor reception and processing, as well as next-generation technologies) making direct technical contributions that are critical to the success of our programs.

As an Electrical Engineer in the Progeny Business Area, you will share responsibility for the design, development, production, integration and life cycle support of these acoustic systems onboard U.S. Navy submarines. You will directly contribute to the success of our programs through hands-on technical contributions of an engineering team upgrading and maintaining existing US Navy capabilities, building next generation system components, and fostering innovation.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Analyze and design analog and digital electronic circuits including signal conditioning, power, analog-to-digital conversion, and network communication applicable to acoustic hydrophone systems.
  • Design, analyze, and test underwater acoustic systems.
  • Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical hardware.
  • Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications.
  • Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions.
  • Design and build prototype cable assemblies.
  • Perform solder rework of prototype circuit card assemblies.
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer.
  • Generate design and interface documentation Experience with the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases.
  • Work with development, system engineering, and production teams to accurately identify, characterize, resolve, document, and track hardware deficiencies.
  • Track/Resolve end of life (EOL) issues by identifying components and defining suitable alternates, or by mitigating future risk when developing new designs.
  • Troubleshoot potential issues through testing and data analysis. Be able to accurately define the problem, isolate the root cause, and identify solutions to fix and prevent recurrence.
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain issues to the program management.
  • Create, review, and execute hardware design documentation such as interface control drawings, schematics, test procedures, and other technical documents.
  • Research and develop product specifications and interface requirements.
  • Resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design issues.
  • Evaluate components to determine performance impacts to existing designs.
  • Develop and review cable drawings for component and system level designs.
  • Ability to assemble prototype or engineering development models of current or future designs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have past Electrical Engineering experience in Analog to Digital (A/D) conversion with Digital Network interface, power systems and/or analog electronics.
  • Proficiency in test, troubleshooting, and analyzing circuit card schematics.
  • Knowledge of common communication interfaces such as: Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP.
  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design including signal integrity principles.
  • Proficiency in all phases of PCB design including creation of high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry (OrCAD Capture experience a plus), and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.
  • Educational background or experience in power systems and/or analog electronics hardware development and troubleshooting in system integration labs, field environments and during production.
  • Understanding of power/analog hardware and systems, and electronics troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with hardware and system integration testing (Assembly Level Test / Unit Test / Integration Test / System Performance Test).
  • Basic soldering and electronics assembly skills
  • Participates in electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), design, integration, and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems
  • Performs electrical engineering root cause analysis for electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
  • Participates in electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems
  • Evaluates vendor components to support products
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • Supports engineering prototypes and designs with those components
  • Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

  • A Hybrid work schedule may be available but will require a minimum of 3 days per week on-site.
Salary Note:

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range: USD $118,272.00 - USD $131,208.00 /Yr.
