This is a position in the fueling electrical team supporting the Aircraft Systems (Fueling & Ramp Services) and Federal Fueling Business Lines within the Aviation & Federal (ANF) Global Practice.
Burns & McDonnell is considered the leading consultant in the aircraft fueling industry. We are engaged in high visibility projects, both large and small, at major airports and military bases worldwide. Additionally, the fueling business line executes projects for aviation, federal, transport truck and car rental clients, including marine loading facilities, pipeline terminals, truck loading facilities and commercial gasoline stations.
Applicant will be responsible for performing engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and the US Government. Typical clients include private airlines, public airport or city entities and US Department of Defense. Main responsibilities include working with the team to create electrical, instrumentation and controls components of design deliverables.Projects range in size and complexity from small single tank and single dispenser gas stations to million-barrel bulk fuel storage depots or aviation fuel facilities distributing millions of gallons of jet fuel per day.
Position may include full or partial responsibility for the following Electrical tasks.
+ Development of AC power systems, one-line diagrams, motor starter schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, electrical area classification drawings, grounding drawings and lighting plans.
+ Design and specify electrical equipment including service entrance coordination with public utility, low voltage motor control centers, transformers, generators, transfer switches, power distribution centers (PDC’s) and other typical electrical equipment.
+ Design and specify facility support systems including site surveillance, gate access, lightning protection and operations buildings.
+ Perform calculations: cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit sizing/fill, others.
+ Perform electrical systems analysis including load flow, short circuit, arc-flash and breaker settings.
Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) tasks.
+ Coordinate with the fuel mechanical discipline and support the development of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
+ Develop system control philosophies and alarm setpoints, as well as provide EI&C comments on equipment procurement specifications.
+ Develop network diagrams, instrument location plans, input/output (I/O) lists, instrument index, control philosophy, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, and instrument specifications.
+ Develop performance criteria for programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) and human-machine-interface (HMI’s) screens and others as required.
Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following general assignments.
+ Participate in preparation of proposals and design-build / Engineer-Procure-Construct subcontract scope development.
+ Develop Engineering/project labor estimates and schedules.
+ Perform site visits to gather required EI&C information needed to perform established deliverables.
+ Develop conceptual designs and execution plans.
+ Work with clients and vendors to obtain information required to complete engineering design deliverables on schedule and build work relationships.
+ Responsible for Quality Assurance process adherence.
+ Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards.
+ Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members.
+ Provide short term field support during construction.
+ Support business development and marketing initiatives.
+ Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
+ Minimum of 3 years related experience in:
+ Aviation fueling industry (strongly preferred)
+ Federal fueling industry (strongly preferred)
+ Midstream oil and gas transportation industry.
+ Water/wastewater industry.
+ Or industrial systems.
+ Completion of master’s degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
+ Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred.
+ Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Demonstrate critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to travel.
+ Beneficial but not required to have:
+ Experience in ETAP and/or SKM software; computer aided design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit.
+ Understanding of federal Whole Building Design Guide, Unified Facilities Criteria, Unified Facilities Guide Specifications
+ Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and codes such as NEC, NFPA, API, PIP, IEEE.
+ Familiarity with fuel process equipment – motor operated valves and controllers; automatic tank gauging systems for large and small tanks, leak detection systems, load computers, flow meters, etc.
+ EPC project experience.
