Overview:

The Low Voltage Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security systems, data networks, audiovisual, and building automation systems. This role involves creating technical designs, preparing plans and documentation, and collaborating with clients and contractors to ensure that all systems meet project requirements, codes, and standards.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate ideas into innovative solutions that meet both client and market needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design & Development:
  • Develop detailed designs and layouts for low voltage systems (telecom, security, Audio Visual, etc.).
  • Create schematics, floor plans, riser diagrams, and network topologies using CAD, Revit, or BIM software.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
  • Project Coordination:
  • Work closely with architects, electrical engineers, contractors, and clients to define project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure designs meet budget, timeline, and functional specifications.
  • Review and analyze design changes and their impact on systems.
  • Technical Documentation:
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and equipment lists for low voltage systems.
  • Develop cable run sheets for all designed technologies.
  • Assist in creating user manuals, installation guides, and maintenance instructions.
  • Site Visits & Support:
  • Conduct site surveys to assess design feasibility and ensure accurate implementation.
  • Provide technical support during installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of systems.
  • Perform quality assurance and system testing to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure that all designs adhere to industry regulations, safety codes, and best practices.
  • Address and resolve any compliance or safety issues throughout the design and implementation process.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, products, and best practices in low voltage systems.
  • Suggest improvements to existing designs and methodologies to enhance efficiency and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Design or a related field. A professional engineering license (PE) or certifications like BICSI, NICET, or CTS are preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 2-5+ years of experience in designing and engineering low voltage systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with low voltage systems like fire alarms, CCTV, access control, and AV systems.
  • Skills:
  • Strong understanding of electrical and telecommunications codes and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to complete a background check and drug screen at time of hire
