The Pharmacy Purchasing and Operations Specialist/Acute Care serves as a resource in the areas of the pharmacy supply chain, strategic purchasing, and their interdependent impacts on operational financial success. Areas of focus include pharmaceutical purchasing, vendor contract agreements, price parity analysis, credit/ rebill process, and devising strategies to help minimize drug shortage impacts.This position performs daily analysis of opportunities to improve or maximize pharmacy strategic purchasing opportunities and requires the ability to problem-solve in real time. The position works under the direction of the Network Manager of the Pharmacy Supply Chain and will interact with local pharmacies daily.
Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Pharmacy Purchasing and Operations Specialist/Acute Care at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Enters all charges into the billing system within the timeframe specified by the hospital standards.
- Assists in resolving billing issues at the direction of the pharmacy leaders.
- Reconciles submitted charges in a timely fashion.
- Notifies pharmacy leaders of delinquencies.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of supply chain activities to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of goods.
- Work closely with the Pharmacy Supply Chain Manager to analyze data, monitor inventory levels, and support the procurement process.
- Analyze data to identify trends and patterns, and make recommendations for process improvements.
- Work directly with all members of the pharmacy purchasing and operations leadership teams to proactively identify and implement drug shortage mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with all Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA) requirements.
- Assist with developing monthly reports and analysis for high-cost medications, price file validation, and cost savings.
- Work with pharmacy automation tools such as Omnicell to ensure accurate charge reconciliation and reporting.
- Responsible for pharmacy vendor qualification submission.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Minimum of 3 or more years of experience working in a hospital pharmacy.
- Exceptional understanding of pharmacy technology and reporting abilities (EPIC Willow, Omnicell, Peoplesoft, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Two or more years experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician.
- Two or more years experience as a hospital pharmacy buyer.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification from New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy.
