Dynamometer Engineer

The Dynamometer Engineer is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, modifying, calibrating, and managing projects related to dynamometer systems. This role requires expertise in equipment, controls, data acquisition, and infrastructure supporting dynamometers, instrumentation, emissions bench, combustion air units, water systems, fire suppression, gas detection, and control interlock systems (75% of the role).

Additionally, the Dynamometer Engineer supports Dyno Technicians during engine testing, helping analyze engine data, troubleshoot, and evaluate engine performance (25% of the role).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance test cell reliability and repeatability.
  • Collaborate with program engineering for verification, validation, and development testing.
  • Design and oversee the production and installation of dyno subsystems.
  • Identify suppliers, obtain quotes, and manage project costs and timelines.
  • Manage projects, specifying and maintaining instrumentation.
  • Schedule calibrations and ensure compliance.
  • Develop and implement test scripts to improve operations.
  • Troubleshoot engines and equipment in the dynamometer area.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting engine performance issues.
  • Recommend efficiency improvements and lead related projects.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and technology.
  • Maintain documentation for engine and dyno requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with AVL Puma, AVL Bobcat, and KS Tornado control systems.
  • 3-5 years of engine dyno experience.
  • Familiarity with AC and water brake dynos.
  • Strong communication skills, organization, and adaptability.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift/move up to 30-40 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hands, standing, sitting, and occasional climbing or balancing.
  • Exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, and electric shock risks.
  • Moderate noise level; ear protection may be necessary.
