HIPAA Compliance Specialist (Contract) Location: Raleigh, NC (Remote Flexibility)

We are seeking an experienced HIPAA Compliance Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. This role is vital to ensuring our organization maintains full compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare compliance, risk assessment, and auditing, with expertise in cloud-based applications and security practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive HIPAA compliance assessments, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance controls are effectively implemented.
  • Provide training and guidance on HIPAA requirements and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain detailed compliance documentation.
  • Monitor and manage risks associated with HIPAA regulations through audits and security assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, audits, and corrective measures. Utilize expertise in privacy laws, healthcare compliance, and cloud technologies to uphold regulatory adherence.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in HIPAA compliance, risk assessment, or healthcare regulatory roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules.
  • Proven experience conducting HIPAA audits and risk assessments.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping for compliance tracking.
  • Experience working with cloud-based applications and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and ability to implement corrective actions.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams to promote a culture of compliance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ‘About Time’ software (desirable).
  • Knowledge of HealthCare.gov policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of health insurance regulations and billing processes.
  • Security awareness and ability to implement best practices in data protection.
