Tech I Maintenance
PAY RATE: $25.59/hr
Basic Function:Under minimal supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor/Maintenance Manager, the mechanic is responsible for being highly proficient in the independent assessment, repair, and preventative maintenance work on all equipment within the facility.
Essential Functions:These areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to:
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Follows all plant and OSHA safety policies and procedures, reporting all near misses and unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Capable of the installation, repair, and maintenance of all plant equipment, including new equipment installations and special project work.
- Performs safely and adequately under stress when confronted with hazardous, critical, or urgent situations.
- Follow instructions given in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
- Willing and capable of working with, directing, and imparting knowledge to similarly and lesser skilled personnel in the engineering trades group including contract maintenance personnel.
- Cleans work area and returns all parts, tools, welding rods, etc. to the shop at the completion of job or shift if the job is not completed.
- Capable of safely using and understanding the use of all tools required in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all plant equipment.
- Exercises sound judgment and safely applies learned principles to solve problems. Capable of interpreting complex technical manuals, specifications, schematics, layout drawings and blueprints as required to complete repairs or installations.
- Performs all required shop math and calculations necessary to complete required tasks.
- Communicates with the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager, Engineering Manager, and other personnel, such as the Production Supervisor off-shift and weekends, as required, regarding the status/progress of repairs, estimated time of completion, etc.
- Reports to and takes direction from the off-shift and weekend Production Supervisor for all maintenance functions required to keep the plant operating.
- Clearly, accurately and concisely documents all activities, needs and status of repairs in the shift report. This includes call-ins or the repair status of work completed by all crafts during holidays where the outside contractors are working.
- Completes any and all other duties as required or assigned, such as carpentry, office furniture assembly, landscaping, plumbing, housekeeping, snow removal, etc. and during periods of extenuating circumstances assists production to return the plant to normal operation. This could include packing, dropping presses, etc.
All mechanics must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate a willingness to continually learn and improve their skills. Mechanics are expected to demonstrate proficiency in at least the following skill areas:
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Perform preventative maintenance work on all equipment within the facility.
- Understand safety procedures including personal protection, confined space and hazardous materials while following all plant and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Work with all plant supervision and management.
- Assist in any and all other duties as required or assigned, such as carpentry, steel fabrication, plumbing, housekeeping and snow removal.
Proficiency can be demonstrated by formal classroom training and/or demonstration of ability from prior employment or training to the satisfaction of the maintenance supervisor/manager or engineering manager. In addition, in order to successfully move from one level to another, the individual must successfully pass the applicable level entrance test.
Additionally, all mechanics must receive a passing combination score on the Mechanical Comprehension and hands on testing.
Physical Demands:Duties will require occasional lifting weights up to 55 lbs. and be performed in normal maintenance type work situations (i.e. standing, bending, lifting, heights, and confined space entry).
