Girls Who Invest (GWI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the investment management industry by attracting and advancing women and non-binary investors, change-makers, and leaders. To date, GWI has reached more than 2,500 people in just eight years, and of our alumni working full-time, 70% have stayed in the industry.

GWI does this through tuition-free education programs for first and second-year college students. Beyond our programs, GWI provides career advisory services, community building, and support for our alumni at all stages in their careers, with a focus on long-term professional development, retention, and advancement.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Human Resources Manager will drive and continue to build out the human resources function and employee engagement at GWI, focusing on co-designing and implementing people strategies, policies and procedures aligned with our mission and strategic goals.
Partnering closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Human Resources Manager will execute on all aspects of human resources including compensation and benefits, policy development and compliance, talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, engagement and development, and human resources administration.

The Manager will work across all teams to develop and roll out best practice HR policies and workflows that demonstrate our commitment to a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

People Strategy and Implementation
  • Assess, co-develop, and integrate HR strategies, policies and procedures in alignment with organizational goals and values, along with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, short term disability and other employee benefits and perks, and lead Open Enrollment.
  • Assess, update and project manage the performance management process, including goal-setting, performance evaluations, professional development and performance improvement plans.
  • Manage and execute the talent acquisition process including partnering with outside recruitment firms when needed; for select roles, lead hiring process including job postings, screening candidates, project managing the GWI interview process and managing candidates through to offer.
  • Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure smooth transitions.
Administration and Data
  • Draft, document and maintain HR standard operational procedures to capture best practice workflows, policies and practices for all HR work areas.
  • Stay up-to-date on federal and state employment laws and regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of HR systems and technologies.
  • Identify the metrics and processes to measure progress and accountability for HR including collecting, analyzing, and presenting data that identifies trends, strengths and areas of opportunity.
Culture and Relationship Management
  • Champion a positive, inclusive, and engaging organizational culture including designing retention strategies and ensuring a high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that promote cultural competency, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, in collaboration with leadership.
  • Manage HR vendor relationships including the PEO relationship to address issues, discuss solutions, and evaluate and optimize plan design options.
  • Provide and implement guidance and recommendations on HR-related employee matters such as work conflicts and accommodations.

ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

The Human Resources Manager will be an experienced HR professional with an inherent drive to move things forward, a strategic mindset, and an interest in continuing to develop and formalize GWI’s human resources function to ensure we are best supporting the organization and individuals.

They will understand how to manage well up and across, thriving in a very collaborative, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

A strong candidate would bring/be:

  • Minimum of seven years of demonstrated HR experience, ideally with a combined background of for-profit and non-profit sector experience.
  • Robust understanding of current HR trends in compensation, benefits, and performance evaluation frameworks and fluency with primary HR functions; knowledge of New York City and New York State laws/regulations a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strategic partner with leadership.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills and able to manage multiple priorities and demands with short lead-times in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep commitment to and experience in developing a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce and working effectively with people with different work styles and backgrounds.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills both internally and externally.
  • Sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through and execution with the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google platforms.
  • Passion and high energy for GWI’s mission is essential.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other relevant certification (PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP), work, education, or lived experience preferred.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL: This role is based in New York, NY and would be in the office 3-4 days per week as part of a hybrid office model. Additional ability to travel occasionally including during GWI’s summer program as well as select events outside of normal business hours.

COMPENSATION: Current compensation range expected: $100,000 – $110,000. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certification. GWI offers a strong and competitive benefits package.
