Position Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Deckhand to join our team in Port Angeles, WA. This person will be responsible for safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant water duties. This is a full-time, entry-level position with a variable schedule.See below for additional information on the typical work schedule. The candidate must reside within 15 miles of Port Angeles.
Position Essential Job Functions- Perform vessel maintenance to include scraping, painting, and changing all oil and filters; Lubricate machinery and equipment.
- Splices and repairs cables and ropes using hand tools
- Carry out and complete assigned tasks within the legal requirements of USCG and other regulatory agencies
- Keep vessel and equipment maintained by performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties
- Perform maintenance and construction tasks as required
- Perform minor engineering repairs and engineering rounds as directed
- Control lines to moor vessel to wharves, tie up vessel to another vessel, or rig towing lines
- Handle mooring lines and rigging to launch or dock the boat
- Responsible for getting underway, mooring, anchoring, handling lines, ship's ramps, and shore-side facilities in all weather conditions
- Assist with the towing, deploying, and stowing of oil containment boom
- Perform lookout duties while underway - including watching for other vessels, monitoring traffic conditions and potentially unsafe conditions onboard, and otherwise
- Ensure that safety equipment is utilized and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials
- Participate in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Drive company vehicles as needed
Typical Schedule for Full-Time Employees:
- This work requires someone to be available on a variable basis.
- The employee must be available for a large percentage of available work and attentive to communications for job scheduling changes.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Maritime experience required
- TWIC Card
- 24/40 HR HAZWOPER
- First Aid, CPR & AED
- Washington State Boaters License
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
- Current GDS mandatory training and other required programs provided by GDS
- Ability to work any day of the week, both night and day. Available for after-hour emergency response
- Ability to complete a pre-employment drug test and participate in a random DOT drug and alcohol testing program
- Ability to successfully complete a background check
- Ability to meet DOT & HAZMAT physical requirements & additional fitness ability requirements for the position.
- Ability to lift from floor to waist, push and pull up to 70lbs occasionally up to 12 times per shift
- Must be able to withstand the following for up to 12 hours per day in all weather conditions (Sun, Rain, Sleet, and Snow): stand, sit, walk, push, pull, squat, crouch, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, repetitive reaching, and repetitive band use.
- Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The company will not provide a work visa or relocation for this position.
Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21-$23 per hour.

Per applicable law, newly hired employees will accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked in Washington State.
