How you make a difference:
The Regional Counselor is responsible for providing daily services and direct care to clients residing in the facility, working closely with clients in a team-based environment. They ensure that treatment plans and program structure are implemented by team members on the units, from admission to discharge.The Rehabilitation Counselor possesses strong crisis de-escalation skills, interpersonal skills, and proficiency in all competencies required of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist positions, with a particular emphasis on crisis intervention and providing guidance for staff in their interactions with challenging clients.
They work closely with clinical staff, Program Director, and other departments to ensure the overall well-being and care of the clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and interventions to clients to promote social skills, independent living, and coping skills, while reducing symptoms and behaviors associated with mental health disability.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of client symptoms, behaviors, and interventions in accordance with facility policies, including communication with physicians and other team members as necessary.
- Assist with crisis de-escalation, safety measures, and prevention of incidents, while actively supporting clients in achieving program goals and community reintegration.
- Collaborate with Nurses, Nurse Leads, and Program Leads in evaluating client functioning, preparing for out-of-facility passes, and addressing program compliance and behavioral issues.
- Focus on providing preventative measures, positive reinforcement, and support to clients, while minimizing the use of seclusions and restraints, and resolving client complaints at appropriate levels.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Sciences, or related filed.
- Successful candidates may be given credit for additional experience in lieu of an education. This exchange is assessed on an individual basis and may be achieved through additional, demonstrated experience in the fields of counseling, psychology, nursing, social work or closely-related fields or positions at the sole discretion of the hiring manager and/or the Human Resource Department
- Minimum of (2) two years’ experience working in an acute, long-term and or residential mental health setting. Population experience must include those experiencing psychosis or severe mood dysregulation.
- Technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing unlicensed program services as validated through advancement/testing procedures.
- Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
- Possession of a valid driver’s license as the position may require driving company vehicles. (Preferred)
- CPI Certification (provided by the facility within first 90 days of employment). Interest in Crisis Intervention Training Certification and ongoing education preferred (CPI facilitator certification)
