Job Description
Senior Loan Underwriter sought for a growing mutual savings bank. Under supervision of the Vice President - Loan Administration Manager, evaluate the credit risk of mortgage/equity loan requests in accordance with established guidelines and policies.Analyze and interpret financial and non-financial data decisioning the mortgage/equity loan requests with the goal of achieving the optimal quality asset for the bank while satisfying the needs of the borrower.
Responsibilities include:
- Incumbent has high degree of experience and accuracy to handle all facets of residential mortgage/loan underwriting, including but not limited to the review and verification of loan applications and supporting documentation according to the Banks underwriting guidelines and policies, regulatory guidelines, and secondary market guidelines as appropriate. Evaluate and verify loan applications to determine borrowers creditworthiness. Responsible for underwriting more complex borrower types. Handles all underwriting phases for residential mortgage applications (i.e. financial analysis, order and track credit reports, appraisals, title searches, verification of employment, verification of deposits, MGIC as needed, issue commitment letters and/or adverse action letters, prepare loan presentation packages, etc.). Identifies issues and recommends appropriate resolution within Bank policy. Experience with Freddie Mac/Loan Product Advisor. Confirms appropriate approvals and documentation in file. Evaluate property appraisals to ensure they meet Bank standards. Monitor loan portfolio to ensure timely submission of files and meeting deadlines. Interacts with Residential Processor/Underwriter throughout the life cycle of the loan, providing information, updates and assistance as required. Performs computer-related work to establish loans online. Needs little or no supervision to perform regular duties.
- Understanding of all regulatory and compliance issues and Freddie Mac requirements. Work with Residential Lender, Loan Officers, and Loan Admin team to maintain consistency and compliance with regulatory guidelines and bank policies. Provides ongoing Secondary Market training to the Loan Officers, implementing changes as needed. Provides quality customer service - for both internal and external customers, as it relates to loan and mortgage origination inquiries and research issues.
- Assists with compliance-related duties, HMDA tracking, and other month-end management reports. Performs other duties as assigned by Management, including participation in projects, process improvement initiatives, etc.
- Assists with writing procedures and ensuring procedures are updated and kept current. Maintains all processing aids to include additional information as needed. Assists in sales and loan delivery to secondary market.
- Interface with Loan Origination System representatives on a regular basis. Enters cases into CollaborateNow when corrections/changes/updates are needed for functionality, and documents and tests changes. Responsible for monitoring software updates when needed.
- Cross-trains with other department personnel on variety of duties.
- 5-7 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Sound knowledge of Word, Excel, loan software, and data center software required to perform this job successfully.
- Experience with Freddie Mac/Loan Product Advisor.
- Encompass experience a plus.
- Bachelors Degree in Business or Finance is preferred or or equivalent combination of education and experience.
