We are working with a reputable organization offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Legal Assistant. This role is for a law firm based in Waterloo, Iowa. As part of the legal industry, the Legal Assistant will handle a variety of administrative and clerical tasks, including processing client files, managing schedules, supporting attorneys, and interacting with clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for clients, handling calls and transferring messages as necessary.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for various tasks including drafting and editing documents, managing data, and scheduling appointments.
  • Accurately input time entries for the attorney, ensuring all records are up-to-date.
  • Manage the attorney's schedule, including out-of-office work and travel arrangements.
  • Handle client files, including retiring and closing files according to established procedures.
  • Ensure the accuracy and clarity of dictated documents using Dragon software.
  • Utilize various legal software such as Aderant, Adobe Acrobat, and CompuLaw for case management.
  • Manage client relations, ensuring excellent customer service even in challenging situations.
  • Assist with court proceedings and billing functions as required.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest in consumer electronics relevant to the role.
  • Bachelor's degree in law or related field is preferred
  • Certification as a legal assistant or secretary is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Aderant and Adobe Acrobat software
  • Experience with Case Management Software and CompuLaw
  • Experience in calendar management
  • Strong client relations skills
  • Familiarity with court proceedings
  • Legal Secretary experience in the legal industry is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
