Winship is seeking qualified candidates for the Director of Research Informatics, Cancer.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Leads, manages, and coordinates the design, development, and deployment of key multi-million dollar research/administrative informatics and infrastructure/solutions for Winship Cancer Institute.
  • Directs and manages the overall architecture and development of informatics standards across Winship's research enterprise.
  • Coordinates with central Healthcare, Research, and Administrative Informatics units to advocate for oncology community needs and requirements, track the status and progress of research informatics projects, and communicate changes and impacts to the organization.
  • Facilitates the appropriate Winship representation in projects and design sessions and provides technical expertise in research informatics and digital technology can support and advance cancer research and delivery of care.
  • Directs and manages the development of technology solutions that are reliable, cost-effective, robust, secure, and meet the needs of the Emory University Cancer research community.
  • Coordinates and supports the quality control, system testing, training, and support programs.
  • Manages all Winship research informatics projects and operational tasks through their lifecycles providing a single point of contact for those projects.
  • Manages vendors and vendor relationships to ensure products continue to meet or exceed Winship requirements within the negotiated budget, scope, and times.
  • Works to proactively provide services that anticipate needs and can be customized to meet a broad and changing set of functions.
  • Consistently uses customer feedback and internal/external audits to continuously improve informatics standards, processes, and daily operations to promote a culture of continuous improvement through a proven and documented methodology. Serves as an informatics and digital technology expert to the Emory University Cancer research community and its strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees the data and analytics practices to promote systems integration and to leverage artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in data science to further advance Winship's mission.
  • Assists in the development of grants and the design of solutions as well as advocates for the cancer research community.
  • Collaborates with the community to evaluate emerging technologies that foster innovation within the environment.
  • Contributes to the overall Emory University research and information technology environment through serving on committees and actively participating in university strategic planning initiatives.
  • Leads the development and maintenance of the required Informatics infrastructure to support the Winship Cancer Institute Cancer Center Support Grant.
  • Represents Emory University at local, regional, national, and international meetings and forums. Manages research informatics staff and makes optimal use of the department's resources.
  • Recruits, retains and fosters the development of highly skilled staff.
  • Manages operational, project, and capital budgets. Initiates and prioritizes projects, balances resources, identifies areas of risk, and approaches to manage risks, escalates issues to the appropriate leadership, and assists with the delivery of quality projects within time, scope, and budget.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in informatics, bioinformatics, computer science or related field and seven years of related work experience which includes work in a health, research or academic health center and experience working with health technology standards and research informatics tools and techniques or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD
  • Experience with data science and AI highly desired. Supervisory, leadership and/or management experience desired.
  • Experience conducting research and publishing in the field of research informatics
  • Experience in leading large enterprise-wide informatics projects and multimodal data platforms desired.
  • Experience with systems and data architecture, relationship building, systems development lifecycles, project management and budget creation strongly preferred.
  • Expertise developing content for grants and other research funding vehicles.
