Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (Infant Neurodevelopmental Center)

Overview:

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner I works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team as a
healthcare provider responsible for providing comprehensive care to children and their families through
serial neurodevelopmental evaluations in the context of a multidisciplinary care team. This position
educates patients and/or intervenes in acute or chronic illness, and practices within department and
Kennedy Krieger Institute guidelines in accordance with State of Maryland Nurse Practitioner
Regulations. The incumbent will adhere to the Nurse Practice Act and all rules governing certification
for their scope of practice. This position is credentialed and granted specified professional staff

privileges by the Kennedy Krieger Institute Medical Staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts serial targeted and comprehensive neurologic, developmental, and health assessment of
patients/families with neonatal risk history or developmental delays in the birth to 5 population
  1. Performs evaluations both as part of the inpatient consult service and in the outpatient
multidisciplinary clinic.
  1. Performs health screening and orders, performs, and interprets tests. Establishes medical and
nursing diagnosis, orders and evaluates diagnostic studies, performs and monitors therapeutic
procedures, and assesses and/or manages follow-up plans.
  1. Assesses chronic health problems and refers to attending or primary provider as appropriate.
  2. Collaborates with other professionals in developing and implementing a plan of care for child or
adolescent.
  1. Prescribes and regulates medications.
  2. Provides comprehensive documentation of all patient evaluations and services.
  3. Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships, and
interpersonal interactions.
  1. Provides health education to caregivers and other members of the multidisciplinary team
concerning medications, management of illness, and disease prevention.
  1. Develops, conducts, and/or evaluates formal or informal in-service and continuing education
programs in area(s) of expertise for peer group and other disciplines.
  1. Participates in the research process and enhances the quality and clinical relevance of nursing
research by promoting expertise in clinical problems, providing knowledge about the way in which
these clinical services are delivered, and assisting others in applying scientific knowledge in nursing
practice.
  1. Participates on department, functional unit, and hospital committees as assigned.
  2. Serve as a clinical preceptor for nursing students including nurse practitioner candidates.
  3. Advocates for children and adolescents with developmental disability within health, community,
and school arenas.
  1. Participates in the development and implementation of a quality assurance program.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess and maintain Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and certification as a nurse practitioner
by the State of Maryland to practice as a nurse practitioner.
  • National certification in area of specialty from national certifying board, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, required.
EDUCATION:
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Completion of a nurse practitioner program approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing required.
EXPERIENCE

Minimum two years of related clinical nursing experience required

Minimum pay range: USD $39.44/Hr.

Maximum pay range: USD $70.61/Hr.
