We connect older adults to in-home care support and community enrichment through our Golden Age Club. Finally, we support entrepreneurs and small businesses as the only AAPI-led Small Business Development Center in Illinois.
Job Description
Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is seeking a Citizenship and Education Coordinator to provide Citizenship Education class instruction and Citizenship Application Services outreach to support clients at CMAA's Chicago and West Ridge offices.The Citizenship and Education Coordinator will expand the community reach of CMAA's services. This role is a part-time position. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to offering high-quality services to the immigrant community.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Conduct weekly outreach to immigrant communities for Naturalization Application and Citizenship Education services.
- Instruct two Citizenship Instruction class sections in English, including at least one in-person section.
- Refer clients to the Adult Volunteer Literacy program for supplemental citizenship and ESL tutoring.
- Refer clients to ESL classes for supplemental English language learning.
- Refer clients interdepartmentally for wrap-around support services.
- Connect clients to the Citizenship and Immigration Department for naturalization application assistance.
- Successfully prepare clients for naturalization interviews and exams.
- Conduct timely pre- and post-testing to measure skill gains.
- Solicit regular feedback from clients regarding the class structure and instruction.
- Reports to the Supervisor of Adult Literacy and Manager of Citizenship.
- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- This is a largely sedentary role, however some filing is required. This could require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications- 1+ years of experience as the lead teacher in a class for adult immigrants.
- Degree in education (K-12, Social Studies, English Language Arts, History, Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or Adult Education).
- Proficiency in at least one second language.
- Experience in working directly with immigrant, asylee, and refugee communities.
- A degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification from a state licensing agency
- 2+ years of experience in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages instruction in a classroom setting for an adult education program that utilizes a textbook and a structured curriculum.
