The Service Writer performs a performs a variety of customer service functions and is the initial point of contact for vehicle operators and shop technicians for scheduled and requested maintenance. The Service Writer is a detail-oriented, multi-tasking professional with good communication and people skills and is adaptable to regularly shifting work priorities and emergent issues.

The Service Writer serves as the primary customer point of contact for all maintenance concerns. The role requires a professional work ethic, reliability, strong customer communication skills and good administrative skills.

The Service Writer reports directly to the Operations Manager and a regional foreman has daily oversight of this role for operational issues and assignments. The Service Writer is afforded the freedom to develop their own work sequences within established procedures, policies and guidelines.

In this role, you will:

  • Greet all customers and vendors entering the maintenance facility. The Service Writer accepts vehicle service requests, identifies customer concerns and expectations, documents service requirements and assumes responsibility for units delivered to and released from the repair center.
  • The Service Writer receives and responds to questions, service concerns and inquiries in a timely, courteous and professional manner.
  • Receive, verify and accept materials and repair parts delivered from vendors; issues materials from stock; organize, secure and control site inventories and material returns.
  • Enter accurate maintenance system information for all maintenance requests and timely communication of work status. Conduct daily compliance reviews of completed work orders for closing and invoicing.
  • Monitor workload, communicate changing priorities or other workload related concerns to the region Foreman and Operations Manager.
  • Perform other fleet administrative functions.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years experience as a service writer or similar role, parts counter person, automotive technician or some combination of this experience .
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must read, write, speak and understand English with analytical, communication and human interaction skills.
  • Good writing skills and computer proficiency.
  • ASE or other industry recognized certifications may be required.
