Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer, GSE & Tooling Design to join our growing team. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer, GSE & Tooling Design will support the mechanical engineering team's efforts in designing, analyzing, building, and testing the spacecraft and its subsystems.
You will apply your technical expertise to design, analyze, prototype, and build Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Tooling to support satellite production and testing. This position will own GSE and tooling hardware responsibilities across all many programs and regularly interact with other members of multiple product teams.

The perfect candidate will be strong in hands-on experience and mechanical intuition and employ a ground-up approach to problem-solving. The incumbent will have strong technical and interpersonal skills and thrive in a creative, scrappy, and collaborative environment with a solid drive to continue augmenting technical skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team, identify, develop requirements for, design, and deliver to production Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Tooling in support of the assembly, integration, and test of spacecraft, spacecraft systems, and components, including lifting equipment, working platforms, assembly fixtures, test fixtures, jigs, or aids
  • Support the development of production, assembly, and test flow and concepts of operation, especially concerning required GSE and Tooling
  • Create and maintain CAD models of GSE/Tooling assemblies and components
  • Collaborate with subject-matter-expert analysis team, perform design-oriented analysis of GSE and tooling applications
  • Create or update drawings, procedures, and reports (assembly, integration, test, commissioning) and engineering change orders for GSE assemblies and components
  • Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, automation engineers, and production personnel on implementing design for manufacturing and assembly best practices
  • Support Assembly, Integration, and Test teams on the production floor as related to GSE and Tooling use, including conducting prototype/initial run assembly operations
  • Ownership for delivering GSE for production use, up to and including assembly, testing, and training on the appropriate use of the equipment/tooling
  • Perform other tasks, as assigned, in support of the Mechanical Design team objectives
Requirements
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of professional experience in relevant mechanical systems in aerospace, defense, automotive, or related industry
  • Mechanical design and analysis experience using CAD, hand calculations, and analysis tools
  • Experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing: assembly, integration, testing, fabrication, machining, etc
  • Able to own assigned projects and efforts from end-to-end
  • Experience building and fixing things (cars, bikes, motorcycles, robots, woodworking projects, R/C anything, or anything else mechanical)

Salary Range $75,000-$120,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
