Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in a healthcare setting. This role involves direct patient care, assisting healthcare providers with examinations and treatments, and managing various administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate should be compassionate, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, history, and documenting information in medical records.
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and exam rooms.
  • Provide patient education on medications, diets, and treatment plans as directed.

Administrative Duties:

  • Greet patients, check them in, and verify their information and insurance details.
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in the office.
  • Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Assist with billing, coding, and processing insurance claims.
  • Order and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification is an advantage.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity for handling medical instruments and typing.

Work Environment:

  • Work primarily in a clinical setting such as a physician's office, clinic, or hospital.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
