Job Summary

The Director of Accounting, Financial Reporting & Tax is responsible for leading all facets of the company's accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and tax functions. The position is accountable for the development and coaching of staff. This individual will drive efficiencies, ensure compliance, and define our overall internal customer experience.

This unique business-facing opportunity within the Finance function integrates leadership, operational excellence, accounting, and technology to impact transformational initiatives across accounting, tax, financial reporting, and inventory. The role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, drive deadlines, and identify creative solutions, and the right candidate will be collaborative, enthusiastic, and customer service-centric.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing General Accounting, Treasury, Cost Accounting, Tax and Fixed Assets.
  • Lead the financial close process while ensuring the process is accurate and complete.
  • Manage and improve the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of inventory integrity, cost accounting, and reserves.
  • Continuously monitor, maintain, and improve existing processes, structures, and systems to identify transformation opportunities with a focus on standardization and optimization.
  • Develop and enhance the integrity of the financial close process and financial controls. Coordinate, develop and update written policies and procedures over the close and reporting process.
  • Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc management reporting including variance analysis, technical position memos, executive presentations, etc., ensuring appropriate documentation of accounting positions to ensure the integrity of the financial statements.
  • Develop, improve and issue timely and informative monthly financial reports that enhance business insights for Executive Management and Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Lead teams by providing feedback, development and coaching; drive employee engagement by creating an inclusive culture.
  • Provide technical accounting & tax expertise to the finance organization on complex accounting issues and transactions
  • Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate special projects, programs, acquisitions, product costing, etc., on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Provide a visionary and leadership role on behalf of Finance, creating a well-respected and sought-after department.
  • Ensure the department provides the highest level of customer service both internally and externally
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 10+ years' accounting experience. Big 4 accounting plus public company financial reporting experience preferred.
  • A CPA license is required
  • Strong technical US GAAP accounting knowledge, including revenue recognition, manufacturer's costing, and lease accounting
  • Knowledge of best practices in internal controls and financial reporting
  • Must be highly analytical and inquisitive with strong organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and ability to meet monthly deadlines and goals
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; proficient in Excel, Access, and Word
  • Knowledge of SAP, BPC, and Business Objects a plus
  • Excellent organizational, managerial, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other functional areas in a team-based, continuous improvement environment
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interpret and explain financial results and trends
  • Strong sense of customer service, continuous improvement, and drive for results. Must be metrics-driven Leader versus Manager
  • Expected travel up to 5% in US and Canada. Weekend work as needed
  • Possesses strong leadership capability and is able to develop staff members, motivate teams, collaborate across departments, and work well with senior leadership.
  • Upholds a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards.
