LOCATION
Candidates should be based in the NY metro area. We are a hybrid organization and work three days per week in our downtown New York City office.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Comic Relief US (CRUS) is seeking a freelance Social Media Manager for a 6-month contract to manage content creation and publishing across all CRUS social media channels. This role involves planning, posting, interacting, monitoring, writing, and commissioning social content to engage and grow a diverse community of supporters, partners, and grantees.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Social Media Manager will lead strategy and ideation for content across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and YouTube, ensuring all channels remain active and relevant. They will collaborate with internal teams—including digital, partnerships, grantmaking, marketing, and communications—and play a key role in delivering social-first organic content for high-impact fundraising initiatives.
They will also identify themes and trends across social media and create compelling content in alignment with CRUS's voice, tone guidelines, and best practices. Key to success in 2025 will be the artful and appropriate use of humor and jovial tone across our content.
Key Tasks- Create and manage the social media calendar, handling day-to-day posting and scheduling across channels.
- Develop and deploy social media plans for major partnerships and campaigns, ensuring content aligns with campaign objectives and goals.
- Maintain CRUS's brand voice, tone, and style across all social platforms, ensuring messaging adheres to established guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Digital and Marketing teams to develop and execute content marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Partner with corporate sponsors, funders, grantees, celebrity talent, and influencers to amplify CRUS campaigns and ensure alignment on messaging and goals.
- Monitor social media activity and the broader media landscape to identify opportunities for reactive and conversational content.
- Produce regular performance reports for social channels and evaluate the success of major campaigns.
- Research and implement methodologies and best practices to drive engagement and audience growth.
- Work closely with internal and external creators and video editors to guide the development of visual assets, including images and videos.
- Manage and collaborate with the Social Media Content Creator.
- Proven experience as a Social Media Manager with a portfolio showcasing 3–4 years of work for a national nonprofit, philanthropic institution, or socially engaged consumer or media brand.
- Expertise in social media best practices, tools, and publishing, with deep knowledge of platform-specific technical requirements.
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to craft engaging daily posts across multiple channels.
- Proficiency in social listening tools such as Sprout Social or HubSpot.
- Hands-on experience with creative tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign).
- Proficiency in Google Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous deliverables, deadlines, and campaigns.
- Enthusiasm for emotional, impactful storytelling in innovative formats.
- A knack for generating creative, brand-aligned ideas.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-visibility, performance-driven environment.
- Commitment to ethical content practices and safeguarding vulnerable communities in storytelling.
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse stakeholders and teams.

THE PAY
CRUS offers competitive compensation. The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $50 - $55 per hour. The actual salary is dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to: abilities, skills, work experience, knowledge, business needs, and market demands.The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified.
