Communications Specialist- Part Time

Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist is a key role that supports the Office of Sustainability (OOS) team and its Executive Director to tell the story of institutional and sustainability priorities. This role is pivotal in assuring best in class images and videos capture sustainability focused work within Facilities and across campus to achieve the goals outlined in Princeton's Sustainability Action Plan, and more broadly in the community, region, across the nation and internationally to advance sustainability objectives.

Responsibilities:

Content Creation:

  • Video project direction, including research, creative concept generation, script writing, interviewing, and collaborative coordination of project participants and stakeholders.
  • Digital video production, including extensive experience with digital cinema cameras, digital audio acquisition, production lighting and all associated equipment.
  • Digital photography and photo editing, including knowledge of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Digital video and audio editing, including story editing, color correction and sound mixing.

Project Administration:

  • Schedule coordination for various types of meetings, work sessions, interviews, focus groups with campus stakeholders for communication Preparation and set-up for meetings and presentations.
  • Presentation development including power point to meet communication goals.
  • Research assignments as needed to support communications priorities.
  • Engaged member of the Office of Sustainability team, providing feedback, ideas, questions, and participation for Office of Sustainability meetings, projects, and campus events.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Office of Communications and Princeton University Office of Communications to share ideas and content with broader communications potential.

Special Project and Other Duties:

  • Assist/mentor Ecoreps in OOS create story telling content for use on various social media platforms, website and newsletters.
  • Film and edit videos for webpages, social media and special projects.
  • Plan and execute special projects as required to advance the sustainability goals of the University.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications and a minimum of three years related experience.
  • Able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and maintain a high level of quality output in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint; Adobe Lightroom; Adobe Photoshop; and a broad range of video and audio editing software and associated plug-ins used in multimedia content creation.
  • Knowledge of a variety of print and electronic media production processes.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Able to connect with all levels of staff, faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Social media experience managing, creating and/or editing content tailored for various platforms.
  • Attention to detail and customer service skills.
  • Excellent proofreading ability and editing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability for teamwork and collaboration, and ability ot work productively across a diverse group of people.
  • Commitment to addressing issues fully, efficiently, and with transparency, while creating a positive experience for our colleagues and our team.
  • Able to adapt to the changing priorities and needs while remaining flexible.
  • This position works in an office setting and out on campus in varying temperatures. The position requires travel throughout campus from time to time to visit faculty, staff, students and community members.
  • This position requires sitting at a computer for long periods of time while retouching and editing videos.
  • Must be willing to work some nights, weekends and holidays.
